Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF undertakes quite a few 'ferry' (empty) flights or domestic passenger-carrying flights to reposition aircraft.

These often operate later than scheduled and delay international flights that the aircraft is forming.

On Saturday 18 January, A333 VH-QPF arrived seven minutes late in BNE at 0542 hours as QF52 from SIN. It then operated empty as QF6003 from BNE to SYD, an 0715 hours flight taking off at 0744 and arriving at 1000, 38 late. This is delaying its next flight, the 1130 hours SYD-ICN QF87.

A332 VH-EBL arrived in MEL this morning at 0703 hours, 53 late as QF36 from SIN. It then operated QF430, a scheduled 0930 hours MEL-SYD that was in the sky at 0958 for arrival at 1120, 25 behind. It then would have transferred to the international terminal for QF19, the 1205 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL that is forecast to push back at 1315.

Sometimes the ferry flight is to replace another aircraft that may be unserviceable or running even more late. So while it may appear to that the ferry flight not arriving in time was cause of the delay to the flight it is forming, it might not necessarily be the case.

QF29 MEL-HKG originally scheduled to depart at 11:05AM today has been rescheduled to 3:00PM this afternoon due to change of aircraft. So much for a cheeky dash into Mong Kok for a dim sum dinner.

RIP to everyone with onward connections from HKG later this evening.

Now a further delay until 3:45PM today. On the plus side the Amex lounge is pleasantly quiet after earlier chaos with a horde of small children :)

B789 VH-ZNK is operating QF7 on Saturday 18 January, the scheduled 1150 hours SYD-DFW that's to be delayed until 1655 in pushback.

A333 VH_QPJ on the frequently delayed QF59 (1200 'high noon' SYD-HND) took off at 1331 hours so a 61 minute late gate arrival at 2101 hours mid evening is on the cards.

A388 VH-OQI is on the 0930 hours SYD-JNB QF64 airborne at 1354 with suggested arrival tonight at 1822 local time, 217 minutes late. Was this delayed due to the world's richest man's rocket re-entry problems?

The A332 on QF37, the 1655 hours late afternoon MEL-SIN is expected to depart at 2125 mid evening.

QF35 was displaying on FlightAware as 'taxiing for takeoff' at 1429 hours from MEL bound for SIN, but FR24 doesn't show it as having taken off. The aircraft may be A332 VH-EBA. Did it have to return to the gate?
