Sometimes the ferry flight is to replace another aircraft that may be unserviceable or running even more late. So while it may appear to that the ferry flight not arriving in time was cause of the delay to the flight it is forming, it might not necessarily be the case.QF undertakes quite a few 'ferry' (empty) flights or domestic passenger-carrying flights to reposition aircraft.
These often operate later than scheduled and delay international flights that the aircraft is forming.
On Saturday 18 January, A333 VH-QPF arrived seven minutes late in BNE at 0542 hours as QF52 from SIN. It then operated empty as QF6003 from BNE to SYD, an 0715 hours flight taking off at 0744 and arriving at 1000, 38 late. This is delaying its next flight, the 1130 hours SYD-ICN QF87.
A332 VH-EBL arrived in MEL this morning at 0703 hours, 53 late as QF36 from SIN. It then operated QF430, a scheduled 0930 hours MEL-SYD that was in the sky at 0958 for arrival at 1120, 25 behind. It then would have transferred to the international terminal for QF19, the 1205 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL that is forecast to push back at 1315.
QF29 MEL-HKG originally scheduled to depart at 11:05AM today has been rescheduled to 3:00PM this afternoon due to change of aircraft.
The A332 that ended up operating QF37 went on a domestic MEL-SYD-MEL run before running the delayed service which possibly indicates the originally planned aircraft was either not serviceable or subbed in for another service. The A332 on QF37, the 1655 hours late afternoon MEL-SIN is expected to depart at 2125 mid evening.
QF35 was displaying on FlightAware as 'taxiing for takeoff' at 1429 hours from MEL bound for SIN, but FR24 doesn't show it as having taken off. The aircraft may be A332 VH-EBA. Did it have to return to the gate?
this is getting more common with the A330 fleet! and sad to say the flight finally gear up at 1712 - and arrived at 2247 - it was on A332 EBV (OneWorld Livery) - return on QF 30 was gear up at 0047, arriving at 1240 - 5 hours delay!QF29 MEL-HKG originally scheduled to depart at 11:05AM today has been rescheduled to 3:00PM this afternoon due to change of aircraft. So much for a cheeky dash into Mong Kok for a dim sum dinner.
RIP to everyone with onward connections from HKG later this evening.
QPC (A333) had an morning ferry flight from Sydney to MEL on 6007 arriving at 1029- this is to operate QF 29 to HKG - scheduled to depart late at 1150 instead of 1105- but depart late as expected…On Sunday 19 January 2025, QF11, the 1725 hours A388 from SYD to LAX is estimated to depart this evening at 1915.
QF37 is the 1655 hours MEL-SIN A332 that should depart half an hour late. Updating @wenglock.mok 's post, the earlier QF35 on the same route (A333 VH-QPD) is estimated to depart at 1400 this afternoon, 115 minutes late.
A333 VH-QPJ arrived in SYD at 1000 hours, only five minutes late as QF60 from HND. It has been given the impossible task of operating a punctual QF67, the 0930 hours SYD to BLR in India. This is predicted to push back at 1200 'high noon'.
B738 VH-VZF is on QF91, the 0855 hours SYD-NOU that took off at 0954 with expected at gate arrival becoming 1223 hours, 38 minutes behind schedule.
Saturday 18's QF1 took off from SYD at 2301 hours, stopped in SIN from 0307 to takeoff at 0520 on Sunday 19 and should arrive LHR at about 1102 hours, 287 minutes late. Aircraft is A388 VH-OQG.
@Melburnian1[/USER] Maybe a full overhaul of A330 fleet (both A332 & 333) are urgently needed?!
Saturday’s QF35 did indeed return to the gate and has now been delayed to 10.30am tomorrow, almost 23 hours late. It will now be operated by an A333 instead. This is the second time in a week where QF35 has copped a massive delay.

I meant overhaul in the terms of making it more reliable and punctual- I don’t doubt their safety record but their reliability is absolutely shocking!!I wouldn't have the knowledge to comment on that, but a recent poster on AFF set out in detail all the checks required for various classes of aircraft and at what stage (after how many landings and takeoffs, or hours in service) these are undertaken.
No one suggests these A333 and A332 aircraft in the QF fleet are unsafe, but they are often unpunctual or worse, unable to operate flights.
