Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Tuesday 11 February, QF19 (lunchtime 1205 hours SYD-MNL) has A333 VH-QPC. It took off at 1446 hours as the aircraft had been on the ICN to SYD QF88 that arrived 97 minutes late at 1217 hours. MNL arrival should be about 1931 hours, 121 late.

This is the third consecutive day this flight has been two hours late: almost identical takeoff and landing times.

QF11, the 1725 hours SYD-LAX is expected to push back 80 late at 1845 early this evening.

Tuesdays is the only day when QF79, the morning 0925 hours MEL-NRT in Japan is an A332 rather than an A333. VH-EBV was airborne at 1139 so a 90 minute late arrival at 1925 this evening beckons.

'The 29' (1105 hours MEL-HKG) has VH-QPJ that should arrive at about 1808 hours, 33 behind.

QF27 yesterday from SYD to South America's SCL was 83 late arriving so today, B789 VH-ZNI should arrive at 1813, 33 minutes late back in SYD. The outbound flight often runs late but the generous turnaround time in Santago de Chile means many punctual arrivals in Sydney.

QF139, the evening 1850 hours SYD-CHC is forecast to depart 35 late. These evening flights to New Zealand are often delayed, meaning an 0030 hours in the Shaky Isles. Businessmen and women want to maximise productivity but I fail to see how arriving at one's hotel at say 0200 or later is conducive to a morning 0930 hours meeting with clients.

QF33 from SYD to PER and on to Paris is cancelled tomorrow (Wednesday 12). So QF34 on Thursday 13 will also get the boot. I can't recall a previous cancellation on this route, but have not monitored every flight.

The returning QF20 was a schemozzle as well; originally advised as 2020 departure, then changed to 2040, eventually left at 2117; arrived at SYD 0906, > 150 mins late (flight time was 8h49m, due to congestion at MNL at the start). For no prize money at all guess who was on it...

On Sunday 16 February, the often late QF20 arrived (ex MNL) in SYD at 0747 hours, 77 minutes behind with A332 VH-EBC.

A333 VH-QPD on QF80, the overnight NRT down to MEL arrived at 0858 hours, 73 late. It is forming the 0925 hours MEL-NRT QF79 that should push back at around 1100, 95 late.

A388 VH-OQI is on QF64 from JNB across to SYD that should arrive at its gate this afternoon at 1510 hours, 55 minutes tardy.

QF84 had A332 VH-EBJ, arriving SYD (ex SIN) at 0946 hours, 81 late.

The 0930 hours midmorning QF63 (A388 VH-OQH is expected to depart Sydney three hours late for Johannesburg.

A333 VH-QPF is on QF30, the Saturday night 15 February 1930 hours HKG down to MEL QF30 that wasn't airborne until 2328, so arrival today is forecast as 1130 hours, 275 minutes behind schedule.

QF29, the Sunday 16 1105 hours MEL-HKG apparently has an A332 rostered with departure not expected until 1530 this afternoon, 265 late.

B789 VH-ZNH is to operate QF93, the scheduled 1200 'high noon' MEL-LAX forecast to depart at 1400 this afternoon.

Maybe some of these issues came from the ongoing Sydney delays from yesterday??

In more on Sunday 16 February, QF63 did not manage to push back three hours late as earlier suggested, but took off at 1429 hours. Gate arrival at 1904 hours will be 259 minutes late, meaning 'the 64' back overnight from JNB across to SYD will also be hours late.

QF19 has A333 VH-QPA that arrived SYD this morning at 1052, only 12 late as QF88 from ICN. 'The 19' took off at 1323 with gate arrival at a likely 1808 hours to be 38 minutes tardy.

Sister aircraft QPB is on QF59, the 1200 'high noon' SYD-HND in the sky at 1304 hours for forecast gate arrival tonight at 2034 hours, 34 behind.

QPD is operating QF79 from MEL up to Japan's NRT with gate arrival likely at about 1847 hours, 52 late.

QF29 (scheduled 1105 hours MEL-HKG, A332 VH-EBM) has been further put back to an anticipated 1600 hours departure this afternoon. EBM arrived Melbourne at 1337 hours, 62 late as QF70 from India's DEL.

Oh dear.

As noted two posts above, QF93 (1200 'high noon' MEL-LAX on Sunday 16) was put back to a predicted 1400 hours departure, but it has subsequently been cancelled. It looks as if B789 VH-ZNH was to be the aircraft.

This may also mean the 16 February '94' from LAX to MEL also gets the gong.

If there are spare seats on QF11, the 1725 hours SYD-LAX A380 this afternoon, I wonder if passengers are being flown up to Sydney to connect? It gets complicated if some passengers' luggage has been checked in and more so if travellers have been through security and immigration in MEL.

Given it's not school holidays and February wouldn't normally be a busy month for travel to the USA, there's a chance the A380 would have room for many otherwise stranded MEL-originating passengers.

QF29 finally took off at 1623, estimated to arrive at 2209 instead of 1735- 4.5 hrs late!!

QF4 is from JFK to AKL/SYD is also cancelled. I think this aircraft with position to LAX, as QF94 is still scheduled despite QF93 being cancelled.

On Monday 17 February 2025, A388 VH-OQH arrived in Sydney at 1729 hours, 194 minutes late as QF64 from JNB. QF11, the 1725 hours SYD-LAX was airborne at 2108 hours with same day gate arrival suggested as 1507 hours mid afternoon, 177 late.

B789 VH-ZNH as QF33 from SYD to PER (its initial leg) arrived at 1809 hours, 49 minutes tardy.

You are probably right, on FR again as QF6038 heading to SYD. Probably being used for QF1 subsequently that looks delayed by 1 hour for now.
