Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Thursday 27 February, QF69, the 0920 hours MEL-DEL was airborne at 1117 with A332 VH-EBM. Mooted arrival at 1744 hours would be 54 late.

Still issues with EBJ by the looks of it, operating longer flight paths, last 4 flights have been significantly delayed.

The scheduled 1655 hours MEL-SIN has EBJ and is showing as likely to push back an hour late on 27 February.

I really want to know with this super profit announced today… will they do ANYTHING to enhance the A330 fleet reliability?!

QF2 1 March arrived into SIN 50 mins ahead of schedule at 17.40 with onward leg to SYD departure of 19.40 now pushed back 3 hours to 22.40. Flight crew issue or technical?

On Thursday Feb 27, QF163 to Wellington supposed to leave at 1840, boarded about 1815. Sat on tarmac till 2100 in airplane sauna (29C outside) due to ‘technical issues’ and no air con, very unpleasant. Can only imagine what it was like for older passengers and those with children. Given Wellington 2hrs ahead, seemed pretty clear early on that 0100 curfew there wouldn’t be met but kept giving vague assurances of ‘nearly ready’. Then herded us off around 2100, for afew hrs broken sleep in airport hotel and new 0700 flight. Which also left late due to flat tyre! So first day in Wellington ruined by fatigue snd having to catch up on sleep. Any suggestions on what compensation should be available for this debacle?

Today’s QF2 arriving SYD March 3rd is 24 hours late ex SIN.

To get around the fact they need 3xA380s in SYD today to operate the 63,1 and 11, the QF93 has been cancelled. OQB will position MEL-SYD

On Monday 3 March, QF12 ex LAX arrived SYD at 0802 hours, 37 minutes late with A388 VH-OQG. It immediately formed QF63, the 0930 hours SYD-JNB airborne at 1235 hours with arrival suggested as 1724, 159 minutes late, which will delay QF64 back overnight to Sydney.

A333 VH-QPF is on QF59, the 1200 'high noon' SYD-HND that was in the sky at 1333 hours so the forecast 2057 hours arrival will be 57 minutes behind schedule.

It still seems QFi is trying to do too much with too few (ageing) planes. We can't suggest maintenance is poor (untrue) but like most modes of transport, aircraft that are 'getting on' may require a bit more downtime to fix minor or greater problems. While it's easy to be critical, the poor reliability and punctuality suggests that the rosters are too strenuous.

On Wednesday 5 March, QF63, the midmorning 0930 hours SYD-JNB with A388 VH-OQJ did not take off until 1324 hours, so gate arrival is forecast as 1754 hours, 189 minutes late. This guarantees QF64 will be delayed arriving in Sydney tomorrow afternoon. If it's forming QF11 (the 1725 hours SYD-LAX) there's a high likelihood of that also being late. Since QF63/64 went to an A380, timekeeping has been very poor: for a while, Elon Musk's satellites were blamed, but I've not seen that as the delay attribution reason for some months.

Another bad late runner is QF19, the 1205 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL. Today A333 VH-QPA, the class leader, arrived SYD on QF68 at 1057, 12 minutes late and ex BLR in India. Having a scheduled 1045 hours arrival form an international departure 80 minutes later sets it up to be delayed. It took off on 'the 19' at 1413 hours with the estimated gate arrival becoming 1855 hours, 85 minutes late.

QF10 from LHR to PER arrived at 1337 hours, 87 late with B789 VH-ZNJ.

Sister ZNK is on QF22 from DFW down to MEL that should arrive on Thursday 6 at 0731 hours, 111 minutes behind the schedule.

The 4 March QF15 (2200 hours late night BNE-LAX) did not take off until 1224 hours this afternoon (5 March) so arrival in LAX should be about 0735 hours, 850 minutes late. The Tuesday 4 QF16 (timetabled out of LAX at 2010 hours) becomes (very nominally!) an 0900 hours on Ash Wednesday, 5 March, but more likely at least 0930 hours. A332 VH-EBO has the task.

Thursday 6 March had QF64 from JNB to SYD arriving at 1836 hours, 261 minutes late with A388 VH-OQJ. It is forming QF1, the 1555 hours SYD-SIN-LHR that should be taking off at about 2115, so will be badly delayed from SIN as well.

QF51 today is supposedly a B789. This 1035 hours scheduled flight has been altered to depart at 2050 AEST. (I had thought the vast majority of flights in and out of BNE were being cancelled. (As a side issue, OOL is 'closed' due to winds and the approaching Cyclone Alfred.)

QF51 definately left today and was an A330.
Was to be a 789 Friday but is cancelled due to TC Alfred.
