Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

Usual story SYD-HBA yesterday.

PB was announced, but both lanes opened simultaneously and pax just rushed forward into both. Not the fault of pax though, announcement was subdued and not clear, casual travellers would have been unaware of PB etc. Just wish Qantas were ...

Slightly odd experience boarding QF19 On Tuesday 6/12: PB itself worked fine, there was a separate well marked line for PB which was policed and got to board first. However, while we were waiting to board, a guy came down the priority line asking to see passports, and when the name matched with the BP, putting a yellow tick on the BP and assuring us we could put our passports away, which most of us did. He apparently had not been talking to the woman at the gate who still insisted on seeing our passports when we boarded, which caused some annoyance!
Ever travelled to India? You will take two paces then get asked to show all the same documents to another person, and repeat the process after another two paces.

Similar experiences recently at CMN, CAI and KUL (Not QF). Damn annoying to have to show your passport to 3-5 people in the space of less than 10 minutes and around 30-50 metres when you already in an alleged sterile area of the airport or even in boarding gate corral. The other one that irritates me is going through a body scanner and luggage xray machine twice in the space of 10 minutes. Belt off shoes off pockets empty, scan the person, scan the luggage. Put everything back in your pockets etc. Move to the next point a few minutes later to repeat the entire scanning process with another passport check. What is the point of it?

Perhaps this should be in the “what cheeses me off thread”

Intercepted when they tried to scan and sent back to the back of the non priority queue. Quite a wait for them, all the flights are full…
The most frustrating time for the interlopers to be sent back (but still right, as per the book). It would also make the boarding faster if they were picked up from the queue and not the scanner. This way the person at the scanner processes only a subset of the original mixed queue and the PB is through earlier.

I've seen this happen in Hong Kong. Worked in my favour I'd been gifted Gold because of husbands frequent flying. I didn't know what that meant (pre AFF). So I queued with my mum at the end of a long queue. An official was checking everyone's BP etc. He saw mine and said, oh dear, and walked us both to the front of the queue. It wasn't Qantas 😏

Maybe that's the solution - QF ground crew, not the FA's stand at the top of the Priority Boarding lane and check each person eligibility? This way FA's don't have to deal with the disgruntled traveller, there's no confusion and interference at the scanners and more than anything - it's blindly obvious to everyone else that they will be checked.

BUT, more manpower to do a good job? QF wont do that, that takes away from Exec's bonuses.

Good idea! They should get their contractors Swissport to patrol the PB queues, and anyone not in the right queue will be lifted bodily and hurled backwards, slammed into the carpet. That should get the message through pretty quickly. :)

Same here, by CX. I wasn't sure of the queues and they moved me to the next one.

Good PB out of SYD and MEL today as I made my way home - both full flights and well executed. Looks like getting the swing of it again.

Just walked straight to priority boarding lane at MEL and went through the single scanner ahead of the general queue...
Short dedicated priority boarding queue in BNE this morning so my luck has remained so far...

Zero enforcement yesterday on QF51 leaving from BNE international. At least most people were in the right line.

Very long line in red boarding queue for QF427 this morning SYD-MEL @ 9am. And very short queue for PB. So short I wasn’t there long enough to see whether the disparity in queue length was through good enforcement or good behaviour.

I’ve never been one for this thread as the inconsistencies are well documented

However, as a regular on the syd mel sector I really do wish they would bring in group boarding. I’m sure CLs must get over all the waiting at gates and in jet bridges

That luxury is fine for day trippers and those checking in luggage but flights are so full atm you can’t do that. I’m P1 and in J mostly at least twice a week and overhead bins are always full.

I think I’m just a bit over it this week…dividing up priority into a couple of groups would really make it more pleasant.
