Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

I had a very interesting experience out of Honolulu last week. First call was for Chairmans Lounge and P1, second call for Platinum, third call for Gold and Business. They actively turned around J passengers without the aforementioned status levels who tried to bypass. Plenty of confused (Australian) faces.
Did they have heavy loads of P1/Plat?

In it's self it's impressive they even had a separate call for Chaimans lounge. Maybe some AA agents used to a thousand different groups?
 
Totally agree. Tell that to the VA2 gate dragons though who are applying it very differently.

PB starts.... Then a matter of anywhere from few seconds to little longer GB starts.
If there's only one scanner working well then hell breaks loose and whatever happens.

To me the bigger issue is when the lounge dragons call boarding, that really seems to be all over the shop. Which is poor.

If you read the VA2 PR response to Matt’s query they are still saying the PB queue should be completely cleared prior to GB. Which clearly is not happening anymore.

Yes agreed re: the way to early boarding calls in the lounge by the lounge dragons. Cleary another attempt to improve OTD, but seems to be pissing lots of people off on here too.
 
Currently on a packed QF143 SYD AKL. PB in place but a confusing scrummage at the gate due to poor signage to economy. Boarding taking a long time causing a 30 minute push back delay. Overhead lockers are full so passengers now taking bags back up front to be put in the hold. Some innovation on boarding is needed, especially with larger a321s on the way.

Should be obvious, turn right any Y passenger attempting to turn left is trying to sneak into premium cabins.

Could take a leaf out of the Jetstar book and start policing carry-on whilst people wait at the gate (and charge for the extra bags to be sent to the hold to deter future breaches of policy). Tagging bags that MUST go under-seat and if the FAs find those items in the overhead bin they get offloaded if not immediately claimed.

The blatant abuse of number of items and size by many contribute to the overhead bin jenga and delays.

The joy of 737s on international. The economy q is way off to the side and the entrance is away from the digital signage. It should be easy.
 
Not innovation - gate checking is very common around the world. But then, see the thread title ...
It is common, however packed larger single aisle jets still take 40 mins plus to board with a single door for boarding. Low cost airlines with rear entry have worked out part of the rapid turnaround.

And Qantas can quote often do a 35min turn on a 737.
 
QF1430/QF520 CBR-SYD-BNE - 12 May 23 - no priority boarding on the Dash-8 leg (all but never is and it’s not really an issue) but fully enforced on the SYD-BNE flight

QF595/QF1509 OOL-SYD-CBR - 16 May 23 - priority boarding enforced on both legs.

I do like the sound of this. I wouldn’t mind if they introduced this as I do golden triangles weekly and would be nice to have an extra layer like other airlines. Usually 4-5 CLs and P1s respectively based on a few iPad sightings.

Not in "Godsown" ... egalitarian and all that.

For a time there shortly before COVID, Delta even had pillars at the gate beside which groups could queue up. 1/2, 3, 4, 5 ... basically gone now.

I recall AA having Group rope lines at ??DFW at least pre covid. Called in order and God help you if you were in a Group before your actual one.
 
On a recent MEL-SYD flight I got to the gate a couple of minutes early, and as the J queue was empty wandered up to the head of it. A few minutes later boarding started and I looked back to see *everyone* in the J queue. Absolutely no-one in the standard queue. I commented to the gate agent that everyone must be flying business today. I didn’t get much of a response. 🤔

PB handled well for QF71 yesterday, which was pleasantly surprising.

Pretty sure Air Canada does groups 1-5, printed on the boarding pass and with separate lanes for each group. ANA also this at Haneda and Fukuoka earlier this year. Jetstar Asia goes by row number.

There's been studies which show that any kind of coordinated boarding doesn't actually improve the efficiency of the process. 🤷‍♂️
