Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

PB, what's PB at MEL when you're off to BNE? Simultaneous queues and of course the suit in front of me dropped his phone as he went to put it on the scanner, lost his screen, fumbled and held up everyone in that line. Tosser in suit with phone. Every time.

@RichardMEL , today's tosser was - moi, although no suit. On VA from HBA, no lounge, so no opportunity to get a paper BP. Phone froze at the moment critique, fumble, fumble (quietly fume) ...

PB lane SYD-MEL this Arvo. Gate agent walked up the PB queue saying " This line Business only. Business class only!"

There was I, WP, in economy wondering if this was the new Group theory in action. 🙂. Nope. WPs OK.

Flew Sydney to Adelaide on Saturday, PB fully enforced and then boarding by rows fully enforced. People sent back if in the forward rows. There was a very strict gate supervisor. Unfortunately some boarded late with very oversized carryon. Tried to shove the bags in. Then told to take stuff out to fit in the overhead locker. Had to use lockers up the business class end.

No help in your situation, but the last two times checking bag at BNE premium I was proactively offered paper BPs, even though I had checked in online. Possibly in their system I have been flagged as a chronic tosser (guilty)

cheers skip

I flew ADL-BNE last Friday and BNE-ADL on Monday.

On neither occasion was priority boarding enforced. I had PB for ADL-BNE (travelled in business class), but was still relatively early on the plane so no biggie.

No PB on the way back, so I stood back and let the initial rush go through before boarding the BNE-ADL - why wait in line when you can sit back, enjoy the tarmac activity, then hop on the back of the line when it quiets down.

QF man at Hobart last Tuesday ignored the PB announcement as it was being made and just let everyone through. Wasn't even the PB lane. All the DYKWIA in the PB lane musta been annoyed.

It's been covered multiple times in this thread.

First and foremost, it's a published benefit.

For me, it's about getting to my seat and getting settled with either entertainment or sleep.

Yesterday QF549 BNE-SYD (1810 dep), an interesting experience where the passengers were more match-fit than the airline. 😁

I joined the queue a few minutes after the boarding had started. At that time, there was a single queue - through the PB lane to two scanners and seemingly no interest from the staff to change that. So, joined the back of the long line (a full flight). Then some people at the front realised that the general lane is empty and decided the skip the queue using that. Then a few more followed and suddenly the whole queue had self-corrected to the general lane and the PB lane was free to use. What can one do than hop off the long line and walk to the PB one, then?

The overhead bins, though, were already real tetris even when only half of the people had boarded...

PB well enforced at SYD last Wed for an A330 flight from gate 11 (probably helps that two separate aerobridges in play).

Due to my Mum and sister running off to the toilets just as boarding started I observed general boarding start (with no one moving over to the priority lane which required a walk through J cabin to get to front of Y) and when we boarded a few minutes later we walked straight on, and thankfully overhead bin was empty (we only had 3 small day packs for 4 people).

Similar on return from PER Priority boarding called first (3 agents scanning passes) and choice to use the front or rear aerobridge. General boarding called only after priority was cleared.

On SYD-PER no recognition of my WP status (we were in whY) but on PER-SYD a welcome by name when meal selection taken, an offer of J wine and an extra cup full of lindt balls.

Boarding gate for QF9 at MEL (to PER) yesterday. Basically everyone has priority boarding including silver now?!

Silver’s too deep in the order for PB. I wouldn’t be surprised if those 5 people waiting were all that was left to board if that’s the new threshold 😜

Cheers,
Matt.
