Qantas domestic economy meals

This is one thing Qantas is consistently inconsistent about: meal service abroad. Last week I flew Sydney to Lord Howe Island with them and this was the meal service:

Bottled water as first "service" on the flight quickly followed by soft drink service, a sandwich and the brownie biscuit thingy, oh and wine for good measure. This flight is about an hour and a half (charitably 2 hours in length). Meanwhile flying Brisbane to Longreach, a 3 hour flight including a stopover in Barcaldine to pick up passengers, I'm presented with this beauty:

Meanwhile flying Hobart to Sydney with them (again in Y) I get this:

If someone could explain the rhyme or reasoning to QF Catering, I'd love to hear it. And don't get me started on J catering with them either!

These photos bring me back to the days when I followed covid isolation hotel food.

I know this is a really wild theory but the Q400 service to Longreach is operated by Sunstate Airlines whereas the Q200 to Lord Howe is operated by Eastern Australia Airlines. I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Well if QF domestic food in Y is rubbish, how about the complimentary beer and wine on "selected flights" after 4pm?

I've taken a few QF domestic flights recently in Y that were scheduled for after 4pm departure and it seems very hit and miss. Sometimes "yes", sometimes "no". When it was "no" it was the crew not offering it and there was no beer/wine on the trolley. I never did make a request.

What are "selected flights" these days? It's not the old Cityflyer, I know that.

Qantas link is generally more generous and consistent across the board, in my experience.

I agree but they were one of my recent after 4pm flights (CBR-MEL) on a weeknight that didn't offer complimentary beer and wine in Y.

More precisely it was QF1523, scheduled departure from CBR at 4:35pm, operated by Qantaslink - National Jet Systems.

I guess that's not a "selected flight"? Whatever a "selected flight" is these days. Is National Jet Systems excluded?

It seems the QF website can't tell you ...

Edit: I just now clicked on Flight Information for QF1523 for a Y class fare and it stated: "Alcohol & beverages provided". Clearly not on my flight unless it was "by request". It was certainly not offered.

It doesn't say provided to 'who' 😂
Might be just for the crew, after shift

I expect QF to get me to my destination safely.
Sure but Qantas advertise more... They had that weird seat stack in SYD T3 for ages with baggage, meals, drinks, entertainment etc.

Qantas prices themselves more on basically every route so if you're going to advertise more features and charge extra form them then you better deliver.

Indeed.

The old campaign:

They still advertise full inclusions on the website:

I'd expect them to deliver what they advertise as a baseline personally.

That's the bargain bin where you can find the Best Fares Of the Day. Things are done a little different in ADL.

Trying to understand is futile. Just read and giggle. 🤷‍♂️
Time for you to get back in your box :p Picking on anything to do with ADL is my self appointed mission ;) be it laptops, umbrellas, iPads and now sewing machines. On a recent flight from ADL I was asked to go back upstairs when I dared to take a look at the new international entrance, in the old world this was next to Hungry Jacks on the way to the old VA lounge and the opposite direction of QF.

Also I am still wondering what genius came up with the idea that sees PAX go through security, turn left, walk 3/4 of the way down the terminal, go down stairs, go through another security line then have to walk back to the terminal mid point then get a lift back to the starting point but on the other side of the glass  No wonder I never flown international out of ADL as trip connecting to the MEL or SYD the F lounge is easier than the ADL experience.

As for poochie I have yet to work out if it is just 'coughs and giggles' or just cough, he/she is at least SA based or claims to be.
