Seems a good advertisment for putting Apple AirTags in all your luggage!
Exactly my thoughts as i started to read this thread. Required number of pax could have been accommodated on any of the half dozen (or more) airlines with services between Australia and London. They have known about it for at least a couple of days. QF are still listing flights to London today and tomorrow on Emirates. why couldn't a few pax have been put onto those flights. for certain if bags are left behind at Darwin on todays flights then QF is well deserving of criticism. I searched for 4 pax.
They are still selling Y tix from Thursday on via DRW.
For the real world operating restrictions would need the calculator, so many variables at play but the 789 and 359 have the greatest pavement stresses for commercial aircraft

Tweet today indicates you'd need more than an overnight bag.I'll refer you to the thread where people reported them doing exactly that.
If given the choice of being bumped to another airline and likely delay - or travel as booked with a bag to follow later - I would take the second option hands down. I always travel on the assumption I won't have my bag immediately at my destination - as everyone should (no keys/medication in checked bag, always at least one change of clothes in carry on). Plus most people would have travel insurance which would pay out in this instance.
I appreciate others would prefer the former option, but it's certainly not everyone with that view. I've had tight connections where my bag didn't make the flight - more than once. I survived.
But according to the link they weren't given that option. Reported that 1 fellow was told just before arrival at LHR. Again pretty ordinary treatment by QF.I'll refer you to the thread where people reported them doing exactly that.

"@qantas Day 4 of our trip to the UK and still no luggage. Over 6hrs on hold to 4 different qantas numbers and every time told they can’t help. Redirected also from baggage number to reservations and told to call back on the baggage number (2hrs wasted). Why is help hard to get?"
I wasn't suggesting they give the pax the choice. They were obviously pushing the envelope and trying to get as many pax on as they could. But according to the link they weren't given that option. Reported that 1 fellow was told just before arrival at LHR. Again pretty ordinary treatment by QF.
And they did...Exactly my thoughts as i started to read this thread. Required number of pax could have been accommodated on any of the half dozen (or more) airlines with services between Australia and London.
Except others were bumped and then others had their bags dumped in Darwin and were told 15 minutes before landing at LHR according to this article. And they did...
Same issue as their domestic catering issues tbh - why not tell customers beforehand to grab something extra to eat in the terminal/lounge? Surely they know beforehand what flights are getting catered and what flights are not.I think Qf should have announced pre take-off at checkin that they will have to leave bags behind and give pax the option of getting off flight /repacking some stuff into carryon
But that would mean someone would have to actually care about organisation management and customer service. Some call it planning, others call it…?Same issue as their domestic catering issues tbh - why not tell customers beforehand to grab something extra to eat in the terminal/lounge? Surely they know beforehand what flights are getting catered and what flights are not.

Qantas dumps economy luggage in Darwin for passengers flying
Economy passengers on board a Qantas flight to London were only informed 15 minutes before touchdown that their luggage had been left behind.www.dailymail.co.uk
Sorry but whichever way you slice it it was a monumental stuff up.
Sorry but as far as I am concerned you are the one ranting to try and protect QFs name. I gave up on them Internationally many years ago. can't see why people pay extra for inferior service.Refer my previous post.
There's a good reason not to tell pax their bag didn't make the flight.
We also don't know at what point they were offloaded - if they were actually offloaded (as opposed to never being loaded to begin with). The pax might have already been on board - they probably didn't have a list of names, just a bunch of bag tags.
Were people expected to deplane and re-enter Australia because they don't have their bag?
Sorry, but you can rant all you like, but it's just not realistic. It's not nice, but it's nicer than being bumped off the flight completely.

Because it doesn't work like that. With the short turn around times that flights have. You are generally boarding when catering are doing their thing on the aircraft.Same issue as their domestic catering issues tbh - why not tell customers beforehand to grab something extra to eat in the terminal/lounge? Surely they know beforehand what flights are getting catered and what flights are not.
So QF was unaware before take off of that fact. They are worse than i thought.Sorry to ruin your narrative with facts. Plane was too heavy for the runway. No point getting emotional about it.
