Qantas Early Check In at TBIT (LAX)

Just to correct my earlier statement, AS have changed their policy and no longer connect bags on separate PNRs. This ruined my plans to get home in a few weeks (I had QF J CR booked from LAX home and a cash J fare on AS). As it was I only had 2.5 hours to connect. Fortunately AA opened up a J reward seat on their flight, and although it’s only 2 hours to connect QF booked it into my existing PNR so it’s protected (and didn’t cost me extra points other than the change fee).

But this is going to make me reconsider future award bookings home from the US, maybe plan on an early afternoon arrival in LAX and use the early QF check in.

Check in today open around 2:30pm, no issues at all. And flying in First, I even got a lovely escorted fast track through security. Took maybe 10 minutes all up from rye check in counter to the lounge.

And of course, if travelling HLO, on-line check-in opens 24 hours before and you can arrive at LAX and pass security anytime on the same day as travel. And if OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald, Qantas Club member or travelling Business/First class, can visit the AAdmirals Club lounge at T4 after passing security at Tom Bradley International terminal. But checked bags means waiting until check-in desk is open and accepting bags for your flight.
