Qantas-Emirate flying mess via Dubai

The OP makes some good points.

And lucky you are using an App to warn you of delays. In these situations I would struggle and more than likely miss connecting flights if the airline doesn't pick up the delay quickly enough. And this can happen if the delay is after the inbound flight arrives.

As for duty free prices for perfume I find them exorbitant at most airports including SIN, HKG and BKK. 12 years ago I used to purchase Wish by Chopard 75mL for $110-$120 at SYD duty free. A few months later I discovered a pharmac_ was selling the same thing for ~$65. Started buying perfume again as presents ~4 years ago and this perfume now is ~$29 on sale so wouldn't buy it anywhere else.

All of which raises the question - whose responsibility is it to monitor changes?
In life we are individually our own best advocate. Which when travelling, converts to checking and rechecking flight status. Difficult when overseas and no internet access. But I figure with 200+ pax on just one flight then I am never going to be the one who gets the first phone from whichever airline. With such tight deadlines I'd be a bit obsessive about it.

I figure I base things on things stuffing up so when they don't I get excited by that, and not angry when they dont. Unless they downgraded my paid-for F/J flight for overbooking.

I feel the same way. Do people want their hands held or do they expect to sit back and wait? Clearly the OP didn't sit back and wait, yet he seems to be whining that his hand wasn't held, and yet he could have had a phone call 20 minutes after he got in first with a call.

If it was me yes I'd call and make my arrangements but not then get upset that QF didn't call - specially with the amount of time prior to the scheduled international departure, when anything could happen. That's just me.

Forget the business meeting, loosing connecting flight and waiting for a day for a connecting flight is acceptable to you?
I have a fair bit of sympathy with this, but I think you just have to have a level of pragmatism. We did a round the world trip earlier in the year and there were significant delays with every carrier we went on. In fact when flying into Istanbul on a domestic Turkish air flight people were so upset about delays, I was really worried they were going to get physical with the Flight attendant!

We have just given up and now avoid any kind of tight connection where it matters (and in fact try to avoid same day connections totally). We ended up with 4 nights at airport hotels on a recently completed trip "just in case ". Not ideal I agree, but certainly removed all the potential stress!
