Yes - agreed. There’s still a small amount of other codes here and there, but mainly Y & J. I’d say there’s healthy demand though the Aussie summer holidays at a minimum.

I'd like to bump this question although the OP may have already traveled. . I have asked a similar question elsewhere with some good help. Does no one fly to Bengaluru? Or enjoy the transit experience?

I am expecting to be transiting overnight airside and hopefully won't need immigration but would still love any experiences. Thanks!

I have done INT-DOM transfer at BLR.

Once you land in BLR, do immigration, collect bags and head to the domestic area of the terminal. Note : BLR has only one terminal (T1) which services both INT and DOM. You’ll pass thru a guarded doorway where police will inspect your ID (passport) and your onward BP, which would’ve been issued on your departure from AU.

If you have bags to check in - head over to the respective domestic airline counter. I’m assuming, given all your flights are QF numbers, you will be flying Indigo (6E). Drop your bags. Head to the gate.

There is no domestic lounge access offered, unless, you have one of the participating AMEX CC.

For your question - I tried speaking to someone that works at BLR, they were unable to provide a clear answer. I have sent a query form to the airport comms team, awaiting a response.

In your scenario, I expect that you can stay airside overnight. Someone mentioned that there is the 080 airside transit hotel that you can use for a bit of shut eye etc … generally BLR traffic is heavy - so exiting the airport and going into the city for the night might not be a good idea.

That being said, I once had a flight delay and was put up in a nearby hotel at Devanahalli .. it was a decent enough hotel, clean, had a nice hot meal at a local roadside takeaway and hit the bed. The taxi to and from the airport cost about $10 each way. That’s a bit on the higher side, however, when someone hears the word airport, regardless of the language, the prices tend to go up

I often fly in/out of BLR - as it is my entry port into India, however, all of my transits so far have been to domestic destinations, not international ones.

I have reached a point that I am pretty confident that we can get through to the hotel from transit without dramas as long as we have boarding passes. 080 have actually said to ring them on arrival and they will assist and if going to the Taj meant any chance of needing to recheck our luggage, airside is the way to go. The $64,000 question is whether the luggage will be held for 12 hours although the Qantas site says it is checked through. Will ring BA on Monday for confirmation.

It is amazing how little consistent, concrete info i can find. I might have to journal the experience for future transit passengers.

Yes, same PNR - a QF issued award on QF67 and the BA flight the next day leaving at 8am.

SYD F check-in dragons said they can’t check through as it involves “overnight” in BLR. They are both retired and did not pick the fight and just accepted it. They stayed at the Taj overnight.

2 QF call center people (one who checked with their team) said I have to collect the bags and re-check them in because it is a different airline. I am really struggling with this concept..... It's the first time we have transited instead of getting off and spending time in a country so maybe it is true....

I have a low confidence in the offshore call centres after my OWA experiences but they were both pretty sure...

Just rang Q Call Centre again and got the same answer. Pointed out the article and was told. Oh - well, it must be OK. So they don't really know. I feel for @exLXCXFF's family who were probably sold a pup.

What a load of absolute rubbish. You might as well pick a random person in the street and ask them. The only definitive answer you will get to anything checkin related is from an experienced check in agent at the airport. Normally, same PNR allows through-checking, as long as they airlines have an agreement to do so (hint QF and BA do)

Now they might be right - because of time or other restrictions imposed by BLR airport or the Government of India - but not "because it is a different airline".

Yep - thanks. That is the other part of the question. As my daughter just flew to NY on QF & JL with the baggage checked through I knew it was rubbish but the experience above threw me. Will just have to wait and be ready for anything.
