Qantas extends priority boarding to SG frequent flyers

It is only a real little thing. But Qantas crew will generally do service with a personal touch that is missing for other passengers. Mr XYZ....

I find VA crew lack that, and just ask everyone "Is there anything you'd like to purchase from the menu". no names involved.

I agree entirely with respect to the little things. The big difference between DJ and VA (IMHO .. and only from a crew perspective) is that when DJ first launched their crew were mostly young and ... gushy. That generation appears to have aged as DJ morphed to VA and they've become a little .... bitter ... along the way.

QF on the other hand appear to have gained in professionalism (yes, that's the word!) as they've gone past the bitter stage into their ... vintage years.

Much, much prefer the QF crew. Now if only they could learn a new trick with respect to PB ... !!

BD

QF FA's doing scanning have been pretty consistent with me in terms of noting the WP/WP1 status and saying something like "Welcome back Mr MEL" or "Good to have you with us again, Mr MEL" or whatever. My last flight the CSM actually asked me "Do you ever go home?" - on a flight to MEL :D (I didn't mind it).

As for the "incident" with the GB person being waved over, my first thought was maybe the F/A was confused with which was the priority lane. who knows. it really is a small thing I agree but I do absolutely understand that something like that where an airline strives to present a product and service that should include honouring the PB then it's a lapse. Not quite KE-nut-gate worthy :)

was a top tier qantas ff for a good 20 years, with few of these benefits for most of this time (however upgrades were much more common)...Due to the slow down of the economy and the increased use of computer programs, I fly far less frequently, but retain Gold for life....The only thing I really miss is my inability to use business lounges in domestic and first international lounges..: (.......so the use of the priority boarding(which is also used by other one world airlines) is a welcome benefit ....the trick is to rock up later...it is always relatively empty at this stage...but make sure you have minimal hand luggage... after 35 years of constant flying, I have got that down to a fine art.

Get AA to take over the process. They are the only ones who can do PB well. QF should not board anyone from the general queue until the PB line has been serviced in strict CL, P1, WP and SG order.

I must say that when I waltzed up halfway through boarding to the priority AA gate with Mrs Excel (PB) and me, as a PS/OW Ruby (!) with "Priority AAccess", hearing the senior staff member tell off the junior staff member that they let someone through the normal line before coming to me did make me feel special.

I've taken my first flight today as WP (only made WP two days ago),

The "AFF Verified Airline Status" isn't keeping up - still showing you as QFF Gold

The verified thing finally updated. Took about 3 weeks!

On another note, I have had the whole personal welcome and CSM in-seat welcome six times since getting WP. On MEL-DRW, DRW-MEL, MEL-ADL, MEL-BNE, BNE-MEL routes.

Havent been on a platinum express MEL-SYD as of yet, but I would expect it would drop off on these flights.

Haven't once had a personal greeting in seat in my 100+ Syd-Mel-Syd flights this week. If you get one, you are one lucky SOB!

Very happy to report that PB worked a treat for me this afternoon on QF496 from MEL to SYD. When I entered the PB queue, the FA scanned my BP first before processing the pax from the regular queue.

Sometimes QF just does PB too well! Once I was walking to the gate and noticed a giant queue for PB, but the non existent queue for GB, so I joined the GB queue instead. Lo behold they actually processed PB pax before me :P

There are some intangible benefits to WP. I was flying to/from SYD/LHR (QF1/2) during the christmas period. I was in Y with my wife and two daughters.

The onboard recognition and service by the crew was fantastic.

- The Senior CSR noted that I was trying struggling to get some work done (on my laptop) while the person in front had reclined their seat. He invited me to the J Lounge on the 380 and was given a Muscat, cheese, bickies etc. I was there for a good 2-3 hours (SYD-DXB leg)
- My wife and ten year daughter got the SK2 First kits on both sectors.
- All the girls were given the option of having J desserts.
- We were offered J Champagne when we were about to land.
- Greeted on all 4 sectors.

I wouldn't say this was a one off, for a period of 8 weeks in June/July 2014, I was doing the SYD-SIN run every week, and without fail I was greeted and was asked if I liked anything else.

I don't know if this happens for SG's I was only SG for a very short time flying domestic in 2008.

I have had a few in-seat personal greetings. Nice when it happens but too few and far between.

Good for you! I haven't had any for domestic routes, less J and PER routes, but I'm not actively expecting an in seat greeting though ;)

The usual name greeting on the 610 up to BNE on Sunday, courtesy of a strategically placed post-it note which had the seat numbers of the 2 WPs listed. A lightly loaded 625 on the return today, was paid a visit soon after take-off to see whether I wanted to move further forward - explained I was travelling with the two sat either side (was centre of the exit row and travelling with my sister & wife), so we were all treated to an early bottle of water instead. Nice touch though.

Sydney PB today. Two lines. One person swiping boarding passes.

Yes and how did that work?

Not well. The person would alternate which BP he swiped. He was actually standing in front of the general queue so they weren't happy when he asked a couple of people from the priority queue to move in front of them. The priority queue wasn't happy when he stopped scanning their bps and resumed scanning the general queue. We were early in the queue so not sure what happened later.
