Qantas First Class menus

I’ll try (but probably fail) to be brief and focus on the menu. But my experience:
- Started well with escort by the lovely Ting Ting from the F lounge to (and through a very crowded) gate, then straight onboard.
- After seating in 1K waited 15 minutes before FA Ebony came round.

Champagne nice but canapés even more pathetic than before last year’s so-called revamp.
- No orders for meal or post-takeoff drink taken on the ground. A sign of delays to come.
- After takeoff requested a drink from Ebony which was promptly provided. Food order taken a few minutes later.
- Visited by Matt the CSM. Promised a quick service. Had no idea where I was headed then made a smart*rse comment effectively that I wasn’t stopping or indeed living in Sydney. Clearly his magic place. Thankfully (I guess) never saw him again.
- 1 hour after meal order taken, glass of wine provided. It was nice but not as good as my previous EK reds.

- 20 minutes later table was set. 15 minutes later soup provided:

It was fine but again couldn’t match my recent EK tomato consommé which came with lobster medallions..,
- Now I’m a slow eater, yet the bread came 15 minutes after I had finished the soup. I waved it away saying “it’s too late thanks”. The next time I saw Ebony I apologised for the dismissive comment. She was very gracious and said it was justified as there were “problems” with the service.
- One of the (very good) J attendants came back down at this point saying to Ebony she was finished upstairs. I didn’t even have my starter!
So the main point is the service was ridiculously slow, with long gaps between courses.

Prawn starter. Had some interesting flavours. Not really to my liking but I’m not critical of it because of that.

I probably chose a J meal but with no advice from the FAs nor ability to see menus beforehand I couldn’t know. It is what I felt like. And while the piece of fish was actually excellent and well prepared, this was a very bland and poor looking F dish.

Cheese plate was better presented but very average quality. Tasted like $5 supermarket cheeses.

Meal finished approx 3 hours 15 minutes into a 7 hour overnight flight. I don’t mind slower service as I don’t sleep much, but this really frustrated even me!
Jeez, pretty poor service and food for F. Though I've often found that from o/s ports (LHR, SIN, DFW) my F experiences are never as good as ex-SYD.

Your glacial pace reminds me of my F trip to LHR last November where the only F elements were on the ground in SYD and SIN. On board, a lot was left to be desired!

Probably because the meal times for leaving to SYD are not so good ones, e.g. supper, and ex-SIN supper would be even worse due to timing.

LHR should be OK since that leaves at a more civil hour (I think?).

Overall, still not an excuse for the rather lacking food selection. I mean, you were getting glacier toothfish ex-SYD and yet only garoupa going back?

Why should it be so glacial? There are at best 14 pax in F and there's at least 2 crew. And I would factor a guess that not all of those 14 may want to eat, so merely have to have beds set up (and I don't want to trivialise how much effort that takes, but surely that shouldn't overtly disrupt meal service).

Besides, if crew really want to be off the hook sooner, wouldn't it be in their best interests to execute a speedy service? Not that that should always be the goal - if a customer wants to or doesn't mind going slower, then that's what will happen, even if that means you are basically nursing that passenger all the way to SYD (and I understand that that is a Herculean effort).

So more or less half the flight time on a redeye was taken with "service" of one meal. That's terrible. 🤦‍♂️

As I wasn't watching the clock religiously I've gone back to some flight trackers and confirmed the flight time was 7:40 albeit with a particularly long taxi at Changi. As another (very nice) FA packed away my table I saw on the tablet 4:02 remaining on my flight, so yep, probably 40-45% of the flight taken with the service.

I did fully partake. But seemed several others did too as there was a rush on the bathrooms at exactly this point. The same nice FA promised to clean one of them for me (which she did) shortly, which was appreciated.

P1_AUS-SIN_MAR24.
QF1 SYD-SIN recently. Wine list on the whole was uninspiring as before - although the WA red from 2015 was drinkable.
No off menu "plate of the day" option.
Someone needs to look at the formatting before printing 😂

Flew QF12 in February. Solid menu, though Cuvée Louise isn't my favorite. They also ran out of my first choice starter and main course. Never happened to me in first before. Service was also glacial, took me 4 hours from takeoff to get starter and main. Didn't even have dessert or cheese I was too tired. bed was great though and more than made up for the lackluster meal service. Flying back to the states on QF11 in June, also in F. I am optimistic the flight will be better, but can't take for granted flying F!

The menu actually looks pretty good!

A damn shame about the execution, as you mentioned.

Yeah it was a solid menu and the food was good. I was a little taken aback by how long the service took: I've had the privilege of flying F on most European and asian carries that offer it and have never had a service take that long. If I knew it would've been 4 hours idve eaten a full meal the lounge and slept straight away. You live and you learn.

FOUR HOURS on a late night (well any) departure? Far out.

When they used to have the tasting menu in day flights it was quicker.

That's ridiculous
What were the crew doing for four hours? It’s not like they have many meals to serve. Were they watching episodes master chef in real time to see how to reheat the food?

Only plausible explanation I could guess is extended period of turbulence. Or some slight mishandling or malfunction in the galley.

But I'm sure the OP would have mentioned this.

I had a long haul flight once where I was in J (not QF), but we had some turbulence close to take off and sporadically after (some of it mild, some of it quite bumpy). The pilots did not switch off the seat belt sign until at least 2.5 hours into the flight (and that's besides the time to start setting up the service and fire up the ovens), so all of us had little choice but to wait.

Yea no turbulence. Service was somewhat attentive though my glass of champagne kept getting filled.

Gosh- who wrote this highly idiotic and grammatically incorrect description for the champagne? Expresses the feminine femininity?

I might be the only one ever saying this but I actually quite enjoy the fact that Qantas spaces out their meal service. Whenever I get to countries like France or Italy, I think to myself “Well, I wish I ever took the time to celebrate my meals like this” so I truly enjoy the drawn out affair on the airplane, especially in First class. Nothing much else to do anyway but sleeping or watching silly movies.

Yeah I don't mind a spaced out meal service except when the flight takes off near 10pm and I want to get to sleep in a timely fashion

Hi everybody. Does anybody have any experience flying with children in first class? I am travelling with my two children soon (aged 9 and 11) and not sure if I should order them a child’s meal or just leave them to order off the main menu? Thanks!
