Hi all,

I'm shortly about to fly QF First from SYD-LAX, and have a few questions:
1/ It's a classic reward, so will I still get a First host calling me the day before to book in a spa treatment?
2/ I have a connection from MEL-SYD (with ample layover). Will there be an offer for a First host to meet me in Syd for escorting through immigration / security (as happened in LAX when I flew F from there last year)
3/ is there anything good on the drinks menu "behind the bar", only for F passengers that you'd recommend?
4/ Has anyone flown QF12 in F recently and has a copy of the onboard menu?

Any other tips? I've been WP for many years, so I'm very familiar with the F lounge, but never flown out of SYD in F before.

Thanks!

Well done!

1. never happened for us on two flights
2. never happened for us on two flights
3. no one ever offered so you must ask.

good luck and enjoy.

We got a first host email I think last time, but they said we had to book the spa on arrival which I thought was a bit poor.

A F host to meet a domestic flight @ SYD to escort to T1/through to the lounge? Lol. No

Do you have a need for a host/escort?

No, of course I don't have a need. I just want the "full experience", haha! They offered this in LAX when I flew F from there, just wondering if something similar was offered in SYD.

You land at the domestic terminal in SYD, and have to transfer to the international terminal via the Gate 15 bus. I did it yesterday. It’s not hard, and you don’t need a host. It’s also not hard going from the bus through SYD security. You don’t need a host.

However, you’ve had the host in LAX, where it’s incredibly beneficial. On arrival yesterday in LAX, she took me from bag collection to bag drop-off (I was going to Austin), then through all the security rigmarole and finally took me to a reserved table in the QANTAS lounge. Skipped queues, and navigated me through a big airport.

Flown First SYD/LAX 3 times and never had a 'host' unless that's what you call the guy who escorts you to immigration and waves goodbye? I guess it might happen if you're making a connection. Emirates First escorts through Dubai all the way to your connecting lounge which is very beneficial.

You will most likely get an email the day before regarding booking in a spa treatment. Highly recommend.

Here's my menu from 2 weeks ago.

Qantas works better offshore than in Sydney. Locally I have had calls, no calls, offers, no offers - its called inconsistent service.

Enjoy your trip, I always find the QF crews outbound more enthusiastic than inbound.

Disagree.

QF make an active decision on who gets hosted and who doesn't. Mostly it's on request, but those who received it for years in the past have had it grandfathered.

I've had F hosts in SYD and LAX many, many times and they were always exemplary. LAX have managed to skip massive TSA lines, arrange a buggy and always book the Private Suite in the Lounge with a waiter to serve.

I know for a fact that the hosts research F pax the day prior which could also be part of the decision making process.

LAX last year, at checkin we were offered the Host … was amazing, skipped the TSA queue and dropped us off to a reserved table at the F lounge. Then picked us up and took us to the aircraft and introduced us to the cabin crew.
Good 'ol QF Inconsistency.

This sounds great for you and it sounds like you truly appreciated the extra touch - which is great.

I am in no way envious or have sour grapes, but multiple F check in's and flights out of LAX, as a P1, and nothing. If offered, I would decline tbh, but that's not the point.

Now again, this is not a gripe per sé, as I don't need that or really want that, but for heaven's sake - some service consistency would be great.

I am fully aware that there may only be one or maybe two F hosts there, so capacity is limited, but this is the kind of thing that builds expectation - and potentially disappointment.

F hosts are long gone as far as I know. I haven’t experienced one since 2015 or so.

Typically have to book spa on arrival but they do prioritise F travellers so shouldn’t be an issue. They’ll seat you in the F/P1/CL roped off end of the lounge. Usually they’ll offer better champagne than the rest of the lounge has access to, often a choice of three or four.

I’ve heard rumours of better reds being available but have never been offered nor have I asked.
