This dispute will impact all Australian workers.

Also, at least Alan Joyce got a huge pay rise, it means his salary for retrenchment purposes will be quite high.

I flew 3 sectors in the last 24 hours netting me 55sc, and gaining a membership level.

Qantas in return for my loyalty have left me stranded in Darwin for at least 2 days.

You guys are doing great, thanks a bunch

This has to be the ultimate game in brinkmanship from Joyces point of view. Whilst I do not condone his pay rise, or at least the size of it, something had to happen to bring this whole sorry event to a head. I'm booked to Hobart on Tuesday and I guess that rip will be somewhat delayed. I'm guessing there may be some good deals after its over to get customers back (hopefully). I am about to book 8 return trips to the USA next year, and I really want to support qantas, so I guess I'll be waiting for a positive outcome to this whole sorry process. I'm wondering if Corrigan or Reith are advising anyone on this

Love your signature (aim to tick you are carrying more than $10,000 in cash) - did it once accidentally and was picked up - oops - sorry!

I support Qantas 100% with this.

Only the unions are to blame for this.

Funny funny stuff! You claim to be a QF WP NZ G etc...

If Qantas has it's way you can wave goodbye to your nice little lounges, business class and extra baggage allowances and say hello to Jetstar

Qantas are the ones to blame for this 100%

IMO, what this dispute shows (other than pig headedness on both sides) is that it is not in the national interest for the government to continue to allow one company to control two thirds of the domestic airline market in this country.

So Red Roo, did Joyce and the board plan to do this before the AGM yesterday? Seems a little too convenient that the CEO and senior management approved by shareholders and then ground the airline. Maybe I should just give Alan Joyce my bank account details so he can raid that too, or maybe I should just bend over and let him rape me a bit more. Resignations are wanted on Monday at the latest.
Fair cop, you know full well this is a question Red Roo can't possibly answer.

And secondly, keep the conspiracy theories to yourself. That, and other emotional statements, add no value to the discussion or debate of these issues.

Hearing at Fair Work Australia currently underway. Hopefully there will be resolution tonight.

RIP QANTAS 16 November 1920 to 29 October 2011

One of the world's great airlines - beloved partner of the people of Australia for just over 90 years.

Tragically murdered by an ignorant Irishman.

Funeral details to follow.

That Qantas Board has lost the plot. Who is supposed to be advantaged by this? The Company, the shareholders, the flying public, the employees ... ? I had thought that the Qantas Managers were paid to work through these issues and not to be totally irrational in their actions.

Pprune posts indicate qf short haul pilots advised to expect duty from midday tomorrow, looks like fair work ruling invalidating action by all parties is incoming

WTF... OMG it is a huge move by Qantas...

Very surprised by the management's decision.

The board has sent a massive message to unions involved that have been holding them to ransom like a few weeks ago announced a strike then cancelled at the last minute.

I'd love to see Qantas' forward numbers. I'd hazard a guess that they are at worrying lows to bring this on.

Hi All,
We really regret this action has become necessary and apologise sincerely to all affected.
Customers booked on Qantas flights should not go to the airport until further notice. A full refund will be available to any customer who chooses to cancel their flight because it has been directly affected by the grounding of the fleet. Full rebooking flexibility will be available to customers who wish to defer their travel.
Assistance with accommodation and alternative flights, as well as other support, will be offered to customers who are mid journey.
Monitor qantas.com for latest updates. Facebook and Twitter accounts will also have the latest posted.
Only customers traveling within next 24 hours should call Qantas contact centers (on 131313).
Jetstar flights, QantasLink flights and Qantas flights across the Tasman operated by Jetconnect will continue.
Red Roo

yeah ok, that's 3 times now. stop spamming the thread. there are other corners of the internet we can use and we do know how to get info we need.

*** Note from admin: To be fair to Red Roo, we have been having technical issues today with the sever dropping continually and it is possible that Red Roo wasn't aware that the pst had been made

Well I predict that the QP's wil be less crowded and the wifi will work better in the lounges. I also predict the Virgin Lounges to be very crowded and DJ likely to be regretting their status match.

Conspiracy?? Do you really think this is something Joyce decided to do at a whim over night? Talk about fully informed share market.

Passengers currently not in their home port will be provided all the usual support, assistance and accommodation where necessary.

as someone affected by this, they are not providing their usual support, only limited assistance offer to those affected today. Anyone else has to find their own accommodation, meals etc. all in line with conditions of carriage, but still no assistance for the majority if this goes on for long.

Of course, I think this was just a tactic to stop the industrial action for 21 days.

This is so un-Australian no matter which side you take...

I am seriously getting sick how pathetic we are becoming in this country, sure strikes are not the best, but now look where we are

Sad day for Australia.....

Just arrived home from London last night. Glad I got that flight in.

The first long haul flight for 12 months on Qantas and must admit that cabin service seemed quite indifferent compared to my other previous long haul flights. Maybe they were tired and worried about the industrial action, I flew in economy, but did have seat 80A. The flight from London was packed with barely a seat vacant. Same on the flight over 6 weeks previous. So on some flights they are still getting the numbers.

But I agree this is major action by Qantas in this dispute. I will watch with much interest.
