have been told, that if a certain party wins the lower house at election in 3 weeks, that Qantas will start cutting flights.

With all the airlines falling over all around the world & forward bookings apparently being worse than even, now that recession has kicked in, surely Qantas will cut things like BNE/LAX from 10/week to less, like 9, 8 or 7.

It could really effect the number of frequent flyer seats available.

What do you think ?

Who told you that?
a wholesaler who books heaps of QF, has been told their wholesale agreement will be changed to only include certain flights, ie. that other flights might be canned.

Makes perfect sense, when you think about it.

A recession might make the fares a lot cheaper and more frequent flyer availability. So it’s too speculative to really know for sure

Which recession has kicked in?

yes but too many loss leaders makes the punter think that the loss leader fares in many price reduction sales, should be the benchmark. It happened at start of GFC when DL & VA entered Australia-USA nonstop market & every airline was doing $999 return eg. SYD/LAX 4 Jan, back 25 Jan & for years people thought this must now be the "normal" fare.

Qantas is almost always the most expensive on any route they fly & so they probably have the most to lose. They also apparently have higher costs than the likes of VA, NZ, FJ. Not sure about UA, AA, DL.

Jesus, where do you live ? On the moon ?

Retail has generally had it.

Real estate/building/developing has virtually stopped.

Wage growth has stopped & now we're seeing wages failing by up to 100%.

So called full service airlines, trying to compete with LCCs & ULCCs are becoming pseudo LCCs & can't win with their much higher costs.

Business confidence is at an all time low

& we have an election is less than 3 weeks, which has stopped many from spending, as outcome is unknown, esp in senate.

The general public don't stop spending because there is an election...
What a strange assumption from a wholesaler and not the company directly.

Cutting flights to/from CBR due to a certain party cutting back on PS staff?

A recession is two consecutive quarters of 'negative growth' for the economy as a whole - not sector specific (or state specific). That's not to say everything's rosy, but we are not in a recession.
There's often a bit of emotion in comments about current economic conditions. Just because you're a bit flat doesn't mean the whole economy is. My experience is that no self employed / business person ever acknowledges things are ok unless they are REALLY good and they can't keep the smile off their face. Doesn't happen much tho.

just got an email saying the $750 return flights to USA are back.

Checked everyday in 1st week of Feb SYD/LAX, coming home 2 weeks later & everyday had at least 9 seats, which is most a search will show, meaning it could be 49 or just 9.

Airlines hurting big time.

Who on? Fiji Airlines? You are posting this on a thread discussing QF flight cutbacks, so some might read that as a QF fare. However the cheapest fares I could find on QF on that route are around $1330. This would not support your argument, especially if it is FJ (or NZ) and you are comparing connecting flights with QF's non-stops.
