Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

The newsletter email from Point Hacks aggregates the bonus offers on Epiqure (QF does not make it easy to find all the offers). I copy and paste this chart into a spreadsheet that tells me the total points I'll receive for each offer, including points from Epiqure and credit card spend. I'll generally buy the wine when I'll receive at least 30 FF points per $.

Note: I am not affiliated with Point Hacks in any way.

Care to make that a shared google spreadsheet? :-)

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

This is probably a stupid question but do you need to be an epiqure member to get the bonus points?

No. Joining does give you extra points on your spend but anyone can get the bonus points.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

That's a spectacular deal

Yering Station, Coldstream Hills and Stonier from memory. So solid but perhaps not spectacular - but with 8000 points (x3) it felt almost free. Went back on the site maybe 36 hours later (thinking I'd grab one or two more) and couldn't find it. May have been a mistake or just sold out.

I think the following year saw a similar pack for $150 and 5000 points. I grabbed that too.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

Giant Steps, not Stonier -- checked on return home this evening. Tempted to open but resisted. Will hold for a bit longer.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

Not only is this cheaper than actually buying the same amount of points from Qantas (they sell 5,000 "topup points" for $182.50), but they posted to my account in less than 24 hours.

;)

Does anyone have a current point value? my estimate is currently around $0.0088 per point - valuing 5000 points at $44ish - Not sure why anyone would spend that much on points.

I think this is an ok deal if you factor in the points at that price and are ok with the wine at the price minus points at that value.

It really depends on how the points are used. If you used them for gift vouchers, they might be worth as low as 0.5 cents each. But if you're using them for business class reward flights and/or upgrades, they can be worth as much as 5c each.

As a general rule, I personally value points at around 1 cent each. Although, in reality I usually get at least 3 cents of value from them as I only use them when I know I'm getting good value.

we all value points differently. Bris to Mt Isa is usually $300-400 one way but 'costs' 12000 points - so those 5000pts are worth a lot more than $44 to me

The value of points is also very relative. e.g. I tell my wife, "but look I can get a $10000 business fare for 100000 points, that's great value". She replies "You'd never buy the $10000 so that value is an illusion."

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

Am in situation where I will be 5,000 QFF points short of an upgrade from whY to J from HKG to SYD later next month, so I investigated eipQure - picked up 5,150 points plus 6 bottles of a nice sounding Riesling for $150 including postage, not bad. Also checked the price of the wine on the Dan Murphys website, and was only $1 per bottle cheaper at Dan Murphys.

Most amusing part was I ordered the wine at 9pm on Wednesday night, the points had arrived when I logged onto the QF website on Thursday morning, and as at time of writing this, the wine hasn't turned up yet. No drama as the website states 2-4 business days for Sydney Metro delivery but the posting of all the points almost immediately is indeed a bonus for those who need points quickly. And at a seemingly bargain rate too. Hopefully the wine will be good quality.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

The emphasis for the bonus points seems to be mainly on heavy Barossa-type shirazes. Presumably they're the ones with the biggest markups ;)

This indeed seems to be the case; my little collection is largely weighted towards shiraz and cab sav, mainly as a result of points offers. I'd like to see more deals on merlot and pinot noir.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

Been quite a while since I've seen a good pinot noir deal.

Re: Quick & easy bonus points with Qantas epiQure

I need reasonable deals on Sav Blanc for SWMBO ... :)

They did have 1,000 with a bottle of Four Pillars gin for a little while, so it's not just wine.

And yet to me it doesn't even seem close, unless "mainly" is defined in some way that means "maybe around 20% of all offers". If that.
