Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

A question for those who have paid the carbon offset on a pre-existing booking.

Assuming the leaf eventually appears, is the effective date the day the offset was paid for or the day it actually posts to your account?

It should be when it’s paid.

Eight weeks yesterday since I paid to offset the flight. Flight was the same day.

I rang yesterday. After politely waiting for the Manila agent to waffle on about the "eight weeks in the t &C", blah blah, I was then able to equally politely point out that it was eight weeks to the day and I would like my leaf. She decided she could now escalate it.
I presume I will wait another eight weeks...

As John McClane said in Die Hard, ‘welcome to the party, pal!’

After offsetting an AY flight (booked through QF, like my previous AA flight, as a CR), I waited eight weeks and got the final green leaf within 3 business days after calling, but no extension to 2026 or option to get 50SCs appeared. Had to wait 21 days before sending a message a week ago and calling on Saturday morning to lodge a ticket. I’ve been told it’ll be 3-5 business days to have Qantas fix it so another call on Saturday may well beckon if it isn’t. Three months to get this sorted is crazy!

The whole green tier is clunky and hypocritical.

Achieves nothing, but some PR on a QF preso event / page in a report.
The main purpose is to get cheap 50SC.
It's difficult to understand why Qantas makes this process so long and difficult. (i.e. 8 weeks + 21 days, nearly 3 months). It really doesn't make any sense to me.

What do you mean? You can get GT in about 48 hrs after booking one flight. ie all leaves.

I mean the offset flying, comments from above demonstrated this awfully long waiting time.
For some odd reasons, some members did get the leaves much quicker than others.
Book a flight and pay cash for the offset at the same time and the leaf sprouts ~48hrs later. The other leaves can then all be bought at the same time.

I never try and buy the offset on an existing booking. Too many reports of it not posting.

Agreed.

I am no I T expert, but for the life of me, how it takes eight weeks for some things, and four or six for others is beyond me. I would have thought something either works or it does not.

How paying a few points to offset a flight or an imaginary holiday house is going to save the planet is also beyond me...

I have been musing to myself these past weeks. As someone who struggles to just maintain P or may be a ~1-200 sc short, coupled with reading about so many folks status runs. I am surprised QF does not just sell gold or platinum for a couple of $$$ and save everyone the trouble 🤣 🤣

Yep. That's exactly what I did in Feb this year.
However the leaf is still in grey colour. The Manila agents read the T&C when I called. Have to wait for the 8 week to pass.

Interesting, looks like YMMV for this, as I usually get the leaf very soon after doing the activities. I'm actually delaying mine this year to try to get the 50 SC in the next FY, as I'm going to exceed my requirements this year.

Indeed YMM(significantly)V.
I wish I had your luck in getting my last leaf ASAP instead of waiting 8 weeks.

What did you actually do that’s still waiting for a leaf?

If you wait for the 8 weeks, can if be backdated to prior membership year?
All QF activity is tagged with an “Activity” date. So, yes it ought to count in the membership year it occurs (rather than when it credits).

I personally would rely on that and just try again (if practical / possible).

Received four green leaves prior to making this booking on QF website.
Booked a revenue oneway ticket SYD BNE in early Feb. QFF was entered and the offset box was ticked during the booking and paid the offset fee together with the air fare the same time at the checkout.
No change was made to the booking.
Flight was taken.
The last offset flying leaf is still grey.
Did I miss anything?

Did you points or cash for the offset? Using points can be hit and miss.

If you paid $, there should be a seperate receipt(?) and CC charge, plus you would have earned seperate QFF points for the dollar amount of the offset.

Did you receive all of those?

Paid cash. Cannot recall whether there was a separate receipt. Can confirm there were two charges to the CC (fare and offset are separate)
Everything has been received except the last leaf.
Any thoughts?

How much was the offset? There were issues very early on with $0.99 offsets not posting. The theory was > $1 was required (despite the Ts&Cs not stipulating a min spend).

But I believe the offset on short triangle routes these days anre all $2+. So that shouldn’t be the issue?

Otherwise, yes a PITA if it didn’t post within 48 hrs after booking.
