Qantas international routes not resumed

It'd be interesting to see what QF relaunches or changes when the remaining a388 come back.
MEL <> SIN?
A380 to HNL?
Maybe look at TYO again with a380?

I doubt MEL-SIN. QF now operated double daily on the route (QF35/6 and 37/8) which has increased capacity. They also codeshare on EK’s daily service. Then there’s also Jetstar which operates I think 5 times a week.

Wouldn't that be exactly why you'd consider the a380?

Frees up both a330s for other routes. Adds F back for MEL > SIN > LHR (join qf1).

Depends on what is more important frequency or just one service. Trouble is that QF35 is great for connections across Asia (on 3K and others), but terrible for the connection to LHR, which is best serviced by 37. In the other direction 36 is great for LHR connections and Asia connections, whilst 38 is great for Asia connections too.

ALso, MEL is not a huge F market, SQ are reverting to 5 daily services shortly MEL/SIN and only 4 F seats (1 flight) amongst those 5 services.

Although I note at one point pre-COVID, there was 35/6 on A380 and 37/8 on A330 and the Jetstar service (which duplicates 35/6) was axed.

I haven't been following closely, but won't JNB service take up some of the A380 capacity when it's back online?

Yes, and offering F! Some CR seats floating around if anyone’s interested.
 
A380 to HNL? While the Y capacity would no doubt be handy. it's way too premium heavy - and while that would be great for J rewards types, I doubt they could fill it for yield (just put the F zone aside for the moment). HNL is a leisure market.

I fully expect the 787-10, when it shows up, to go to HNL in the longer term - higher Y capacity, probably some W but still a decent J cabin is probably about right - but most importantly they want Y capacity for such a route.

IIRC there's only one carrier that put a A380 into HNL, and that's NH from NRT - and that's a whole other situation.
 
I think BNE-ORD does belong on the list. It would have started if covid didn’t happen. I was booked and ready to go.
Us too. Disappointed that it hasn't been launched as it would be very convenient for us, with ORD being our US destination.
 
Across the Pacific I think UA have made a few too many moves to allow MEL-SFO, BNE-SFO come back... and I believe the latter (alongside BNE-ORD) was part of the QLD govt deal to base some 787s there which of course is no longer the case either?

BNE-SFO increasing to a daily and on December 1st they are starting BNE-LAX 4 times weekly
 
TG are running double daily’s MEL-BKK. I haven’t looked into what there loads are like and perhaps they are poor.
I guess QF being short of aircraft doesn’t help and it’s in their best interests to service more profitable routes or use their LCC arm of the business to do so

Shame it's never available for redemption!

It will be interesting going forward with the declining AUD vs USD; this gives non-US carriers a significant advantage.

HA said the declining NZD was a major factor for pulling out of AKL, even though they had good loads (ie, as AUD/NZD gets lower, the airlines have to lower their fares in USD in order to compete with local carriers).

I think growth will very much stop, if not recede on these routes. They seem happy to service them in their winter when they have spare capacity but it slows to a trickle in their summer when they can make more money elsewhere.
 
TG has plenty of availability on both flights in J through Aeroplan around March when I was looking recently.
Just checked and the first two days I checked in March had availability
Same for UA. TG is often fairly easy to get space on imo.
