Qantas is back at MCY, and MEL-OOL runs

Would that not work reasonably well for leisure travellers though (relative to check in / check out hotel timings)?

There was mention of adjustments to schedules from Feb '16 once the "new" 717s arrive.

Slots at SYD would be another consideration.

Sure it does but 2 flights within 40 mins then nothing for 5 hours seems silly, I imagine it's the best they could do with the schedule they have though.

Yeah its great. Ive checked and there are still valid fares via Sydney too which is good.

As long as MEL-OOL remains once per day, I do believe the good fares via SYD will stick around as they need to provide more frequency at a reasonable price (even if that is via SYD) to appeal to business travellers.

Glad QF are going back on SYD-MCY... we've looked at weekend getaways to the region, then skipped over the option for another due to the orange cancer!

Just booked SYD-MCY return for late Jan to visit family. Very happy with the $89 special.

Might tag a SYD-MCY flight along with a SYD-CBR sector. I travel SYD-CBR often but flights are usually $149. CBR-SYD-MCY going for $169 ($20 extra, basically).

oh well, just for fun ill fly the inaugural MEL-OOL. Might see some of you on board :)

Has as anyone noticed as part of the raft of announcements the retiming of OOL SYD services from End of Oct.
QF now have an early starter against VA ex OOL with an evening service ex Syd after 6pm. Still 3 per day until March when the 4 th service starts, great news for business type ex OOL.
Only down side is the last OOL SYD is now a bit early for SYD business folk just after 3pm.

I haven't looked at the schedule changes that you're referring to, though it may just be the adjustment for daylight saving. Flights times always remained same for SYD and moved an hour at OOL.

I assume the car rental companies at MCY are going to extend their hours to align with the QF flight timings (late evening arrival, early morning departure) given that they are currently closed being outside all the existing flights?

My flights in December have changed coming home in line with what others have said. I don't believe it's simply a DST change as my SYD-OOL flight now leaves quite a bit later than it did before. I think it's a smart idea, but the plane should stay at OOL overnight and fly back early the next morning... and I'm not sure it does.

With a 640am departure ex mcy its not going to cater for leisure travelers from Sydney. Aircraft leaves Sydney in evenings and overnights at mcy. Good schedule for those doing Sydney daytrips ex mcy.

Can't understand why the extra service SYD-OOL can't do this... overnighting at OOL and leaving early the next morning with Business travellers would make fine sense.

The additional syd-ool frequency is a B717... rather silly timing of 40 mins between an existing flight though. So you have a flight at 1105 then another at 1145!

That seems like a waste.

Any increase in routes is good news. Now I wonder if I can make the inaugural MEL-OOL flight?

Happy to meet anyone arriving into OOL, and if you happen to stay on for a little longer I'll have at least 3 spare seats in my car :p

I did think that as well but the flight ex OOL is 0630 ish which means an overnighting aircraft. Currently the first flight ex OOL is a Sydney starter. It appears ,as with MCY, they are focusing on Business traffic ex Qld (some would say a very non Qantas like approach as normally SYD centric, as ADL and PER FFs point out regularly). Lets hope this continues

That is a big leap of faith then as it will massively change the economics of the operation. 10 or so hotel rooms a night and the need to get a catering operation in place won't come cheap! Perhaps they will expect BNE crew to operate and drive down?
