Qantas last minute QF9 cancellation / bumping

Comes through as Y but airlines have pre-negotiated rates for these scenarios which are usually organised at the operational level - known as flight interruption manifest (FIM)

FIMs do not exist anymore. They've been phased out.

My friend was in the AY->QF connection at SIN. The AY flight was running late and missed MCT by five minutes, all connecting lax transferred off QF to JQ :( Bit of a downgrade for business class.

Of course the incoming AY pax had oodles of time to make the QF flight… but rules are rules.
MCT is based on scheduled times, not actual.

Sounds like someone was being a bit too proactive and pessimistic.

That does seem odd. Last time I connected through Changi (2019) going HND-SIN-PER we were running late, but I was met at the door and jogged to the connecting flight that had only just started boarding.

Well there you go. When and what was the catalyst for that, COVID (if you happen to know)?

It was a few years ago now circa 2018 or so, possibly earlier and had nothing to do with COVID. It was an industry wide change.

An involuntary reissue.

e.g. MEL/SIN, QF flight cancelled.
QF rebooks MEL /BKK /SIN on TG, and reissues the MEL/SIN coupon MEL TG X/BKK TG SIN.
QF and TG would have an agreed rate covered in a BITA-Bilateral Traffic Agreement.

Done that run many times. If I’m not in a suit, I’d tell the agent to radio the gate and I’d run like the wind….

Ah ok so the backend more or less the same. Sounds like it was a modernisation to take in to account universal e-ticketing. Cool to know, thanks to you and @madrooster

Pretty much exactly the same. Just able to book flights instantly and now people not rocking up to an airport with a piece of paper to give to someone.
Also Qantas was actually one of the last carriers to transition over... Surprise surprise. They didn't want to spend money on IT upgrades.

So when such weight restrictions apply, is it more likely they would bump a Y or W seat off the flight than a J? As a female mostly solo traveller i would not want to end up on a flight via ME when id booked one via SIN or PER.

I've travelled through both Dubai and Qatar airports on my own several times and always felt extremely safe.

Weight restrictions wont be an issue via SIN or PER, only DRW

(But yes Y would get bumped first)

Though not every Australian woman flying through Qatar has had a safe passage.
Yes I understand. I don't think that disgraceful incident will ever happen again though.
