re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

If you're a very small business like I am then it sounds like there could be benefits. As the boss and the employee I might be able to make the most of it.

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

I'm afraid that the business controllers will use the points to book work flights for employees.
This results in employee travelling on award ticket with no SC/points.

I can see my company doing this.

Unless I can convince them to use the points for travel class upgrades, but that will be playing the lottery.

Why would they waste points on a flight for you? That's a J -> F upgrade the CFO and their family will miss out on.
You'll be on those red e deals for a while yet ;)

I fly for a client and for my own business. I can see myself paying for the client flights and claiming re-imbursement under this scheme. They defer cash outlay and I get double (or at least more) points :)

Can't be that good.

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

It says business related expenses too. Does this mean points earned on a CC? We've just had company cards issued at my work. I used to use my own card for expenses, around $10k a month, but now it's all on the company card, so albeit it's less of a risk for me now, I've lost most of my points. If I can convince mt director to take this up, then it'd go at least a way to getting some of my points back.

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

OK, have just registered my business. I think its generous that the annual fee is waived, apparently without limit time-wise, for those who pre-register.

The main uncertainty seems to be the rate of earning of Aquire Points on flights. I guess this will be a typical Qantas 'dribble out the information' exercise to generate 'excitement'. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Huh? Whazzat? Sure I'm excited!

If the 'introductory offer' is 500 Aquire points per eligible flight, then I guess the usual earn rate will be less than that, which won't be that attractive.

But on the face of it, this is a good move by Qantas, well done. Have to see if its enough to change my booking behavior.

Sounds good,

A way to boost my points a bit.

A bit like family pooling as I have a small business.

All my family will be linked to it.

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

Looks good so pre-registered :)

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

Not to put a downer on this but isn't this going to just put a heap of extra points into circulation thus devaluing them?

Disclaimer - I won't get to benefit from this :(

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

I see Qantas getting loyalty from not just the traveller but his sponsor.

I see nothing to lose for the moment unless QF devalues benefits sometime in the future. Maybe I should expect Virgin to come up with similar or better soon. VA may be fine-tuning their secret weapon.

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

I got the email form Qantas Corporate Sales, then later Mrs Shintaro got one from Qantas Frequent Flyer, not sure there is anything in this for her, but for me as a Sole Trader with an ABN... time will tell but will register now and wait and see until later if it was all worth it...

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

We’re very excited to announce the launch of our new business loyalty program, Aquire. For more details, check out the media release in the Qantas News Room.

Qantas announces 'Aquire' - a new Business Loyalty Program

Red Roo, will Aquire fall in line and in conjunction with the "Qantas Business Direct" login portal or will it be something separate...? Just wondering how many login's will be required, hopefully it is included in the business direct console

re: Qantas launches "Aquire" business frequent flyer program.

Has anyone thought of the Fringe Benefits Tax implications of using these points for pleasure or to give to employees rather than using them for business? It seems this could be an incredibly expensive exercise if subject to FBT.

As it would be a direct benefit from the employer, I believe any transfer of points would invoke a FBT liability.

Thanks Markis. If this is the case, then the marketing by Qantas about being able to give points to your employers is a bit of a fallacy... the FBT on the donation of points isn't far off the value of the point (whatever that might be), so it doesn't get you far ahead!

Qantas Acquire Program

Folks,

Not sure if this has already been posted but I have just received an email from Qantas about their new Acquire program due to start in March 2014.
What do AFF members make of it?

regards

Yes, look at the thread board and you'll see a thread on this from yesterday.

Qantas of as far as mentioning this type of possibility on their web site:

Aquire | Frequently asked questions | Qantas

[h=3]Are there any tax consequences from receiving or using Aquire Points earned through the early bird offer?[/h] Aquire Points could be subject to income tax or FBT where given to employees for private use and as such you should seek independent taxation advice.
