Yes indeed doing that. I'll just enjoy a mini sample of Tokyo airports airside then.

This has now got me wondering tho... anyone got any tips or warnings to avoid a transit debacle? I didn't bank on needing to pass through immigration and back in again. And I was assuming my bags would be checked through without needing to collect at Haneda but now I'm second guessing it!

Seems I've got 4.5hrs to achieve the connection. Apologies for all the questions, hope someone doesn't mind answering.

4.5hrs is not much time, you effectively need to enter the country, grab you bags then grab the bus. If QF25 arrives around 6, you should make the 7.40 bus that get to NRT at 9, if you don’t the next arrival is an hour later.

Hi all - apologies, this has probs been answered above but I'm not fluent in FF lingo. I'm a plain QC member and flying with family to Haneda on QF25 and then from Narita to Frankfurt on JL407. It has all been booked via Qantas as a rewards flight in economy.

My question is can I use any of the Narita lounges given the flight doesn't carry a QF number, it's JAL, and I'm only a scuzzy QC bronze FF?

I wouldn’t be concerned about lounge access, what is your time frame to transit HND-NRT? I have done this in the past in both direction and am comfortable with around 6 hours. If everything is on time 4-4.5 hours should be ok, the MCT is around 3 hours which is too tight for me. If QF25 is running late or the crowds are heavy at immigration you may run into issues. If both flights are on the same ticket you should be protected if there are delays and you miss the second flight. Not that I condone queue jumping however if you are late into HND or immigration is busy I would speak with one of the airport staff at immigration and explain that you need to get to NRT. There is every chance but not guaranteed that the staff may assist you in getting you fast tracked through immigration. If you can get them to escort you that is even easier as it will stop ‘peanut comments’ from other PAX accusing you of queue jumping or comments such as wait in line like the rest of us.

The Japanese follow rules but they are also very helpful and may assist.

I've bailed on this plan in the hope of a less stressful trip. Turns out this particular class reward flight was a pretty bad use of points anyway as booking a one way QF return leg back from Europe brought the total cash cost (before taking into account the pts) to close to just paying for a full return trip on QF/EK. 300000 pts to save $800 or so and acquire a tricky transfer - not worth it!

Very grateful for all you advice everyone. I think it saved me some pain.

HI Patsy, We've just done it so I know you should have plenty of time. You are landing in the right location (i.e. airport) so all should be good. We got there 5:30pm for a 7:30pm departure.

we left on a Sunday night QF80 arrived about 5:30 on the Narita express from Tokyo. The check in queue's were not long and the immigration was pretty efficient. It didn't take long at all.

Not for outbound. Inbound can from time to time be long for immigration but outbound it's generally quite quick.

I wouldn't be too worried at all about a 4 hour transit Domestic to International at Narita.
The other post is challenging because they're going from Haneda to Narita.

JAL used to have "international" flights between KIX and NRT meant for connections to long haul flights at NRT, but not sure if they still run those.
Looking at the timetable, I assume it's JL3006 ITM-NRT?
JAL may check you through to the QF flight, even if they are on different tickets. NRT T2 has a number of gates (64-68) at the far end of the main concourse that can be changed between domestic and international (doors open/close to block access to the main international departures concourse).
The domestic part of T2 is about 400m away from the international departure immigration/security area. You may have to change floors, but it is otherwise in the same building. IIRC, the domestic area is on the same floor as International arrivals.

HI Patsy, as a Qantas club member you can get into the Aspire lounge, you just need to produce you Qantas club card. It is in the vicinity of the Qantas departure gates, but downstairs.

Make sure to work out the nearest Itami airport bus stops to where you are staying in Osaka and the bus timetable.
Itami Airport has no rail line. There is a monorail, which does not go into central Osaka.
