As I don't see a thread started about this, I thought I'd create one. The purpose of this thread is primarily to document the ongoing issues noticed at Qantas lounges both domestically and internationally.

I'll begin this thread with my report:

Airport: Brisbane Domestic Airport
Lounge: Qantas Business Lounge
Issue: Most of the power points don't offer sufficient clearance to plug in power adaptor:

Looks to be an issue of poor apple design (as is typical).

Every laptop, tablet, camera and phone charger I own would have zero issues using that PowerPoint. Great to see powerpoints at table/desk height and not down on the floor.

Those Mac charges are very chunky, but, the PER J lounge and other lounges with the recessed in-table power sockets won't accept my plugpack either, which is about half of the size of those Mac ones.

There is a lead you can attach to that brick to enable it to plug in easily (they don’t include it with new purchases anymore, but most should have one from an older laptop) or you could bring a double adapter

Just thought I’d add another pet peeve here, the toilets at Hobart’s lounge which when I last visited were out of service. Also the lack of catering at both SYD and BNE domestic compared to MEL or PER

Agreed here that Apple shouldn’t have designed an adaptor so chonky especially with the advent of GaN chargers that can output similar wattage at smaller sizes.

Not sure cameras and phones can use PowerPoint! 😂

Agree with the idea. Maybe I need to get one of those GaN chargers for my MacBook.

Yes Apple used to include those but don’t now. It is still annoying since it adds even more bulk to my already bulky backpack.

This is not unique to QF lounges. You’d have a VERY long list of lounges and hotel rooms that wouldn’t accommodate that without the flexible lead similar to any other USB-C power adaptor.

Maybe your issue is Apple Design Peeves.
It is ridiculous that Apple designed that, and people claim lounges, and hotels aren't designed properly.

I don't think it's QF's fault that Apple have a really stupidly designed charging brick.

There are 2 usb ports shown there in the pic of the power point that I use for my iPhone15 perfectly suitable for plugging a cord in and a top up without the use of an adapter

(my ASUS laptop when I need to use it has a standard plug without issue)

Could someone please call an electrician to fix the power points at the 'benches' in the far corner of the Sydney Business lounge? They haven't been working for months!

Its the best part of that lounge, away from the madness at the bar / buffet, and the benches also double up as a standing desk - I'm often transiting SYD, you want to stretch your legs - and charge the computer from the previous flight for the 2 hour Dash 8 ride home ... but no such luck!

Being 'Old School' I really miss the opportunity to pick up a copy of 'The Age' in the Melbourne Lounges.
I find the on-line version irritating.
ha! yes. it was about the only time I would grab papers to read. Plus I wasn't going to pay >$4 for a Green Guide lol.

I've noticed a lack of newsprint in many lounges around the world. Used to be you couldn't walk into a lounge in the US without falling over copies of the McPaper or WSJ or whathaveyou. These days... few and far between... the times we now live in I guess.

definitely old school but there's something to be said for a lazy sunday with the paper and a cuppa.

Another pet peeve at the Brisbane domestic J lounge - there is no self-service coffee machine meaning you have to queue up at the bar to get a coffee made which admittedly isn't a big deal if the lounge isn't busy but can be quite annoying when you're travelling at peak times. Meanwhile the QF Club at BNE has such self-serve coffee machines. Also, I think the QF Club at BNE offers better views of the tarmac. Taken together this seems to suggest that BNE suffers from Sydney domestic lounge syndrome.

My pet peeve is that the breakfast menu doesn’t seem to ever really change (except for the First Lounge, which I don’t get too often). I much prefer the food available from lunch onwards and the bar is closed at domestic lounges till lunch time.

Lots of the usb chargers do not work as stuff has gotten inside, or that so many people have used it over the years, and no repairs have been done.
So you can plug in your usb charge cord, if the plug is too cluncky, and there is no electricity coming out of the usb outlet.
Can't even charge a smallish battery bank.
