A little bit of a random one.

Last week in MEL, I scanned into the J lounge and took a seat for about 20 minutes.

I randomly got a call from an old friend who was down in the QFLink gate area, so I left the lounge and we caught up. Their flight then left and I went back to the J lounge.

Upon scanning in (again) I got asked 'Oh Sir Jakeseven7, it appears you have already checked into the lounge, did you leave?' I then explained yes I had, and was waved in, no issue.

I actually didn't know that QF were clocking this, I thought the boarding pass scan was just a 'YES - ELIGIBLE' scan, not a 'has already checked in' check.

Just something I would share, out of interest as I sit in yet another airport lounge.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

The other thing is they insist on guests scanning their BPs now, pre covid they did not. I guested a few people into the DRW QP a few weeks ago and my guests went to scan their BP after me and I said "Oh no, only I have to scan..." and the dragon said "no, they all have to scan now - due covid". Not sure if that's just a NT thing.

yes, had to scan a guest in in MEL also a couple of months ago.

I suspect this is to keep more accurate info on lounge usage.

This brings up the question - for domestic lounges where some members are allowed to guest in non traveling pax (or one presumes pax on non QF/JQ flights) I wonder how they manage that? Perhaps they have a generic code they can scan for that.

All QP & SG+ members as well as J pax can guest non-travelling pax into domestic lounges.

Maybe it's about to be enhanced.

When I guested in some non-QF pax into the J lounge a few weeks ago, they had to scan a QR code taking them to a page where they had to enter their contact details.

Which lounge
SYD QF J DOM. Signed in then went out landside - I forgot a camera and I had someone drive it to the drop off zone then back again. But this was precovid. A different lounge dragon was then in charge - the remark was "back again?". I didn't think too much about it at the time.

Another time was at MEL Int QF F lounge. Signed in, then went to gate, then got told QF93 delayed so went back to Flounge but this time they said "did you forget something" but they recognised me so not a biggie.

I have noticed that when I exercise my Plat "arrival" lounge access, they do not not scan your BP at all; just sighting it seems to be enough. Not sure if that is a general practice?

When I entered the CBR J lounge recently they asked my colleague to scan her BP, I explained she wasn't flying with QF but with FP. We were waved through.

I must be unlucky. Been asked to scan on arrival in SYD, CBR and MEL. Maybe I look dodgy.

Arriving on QF rom BKK into SYD last month I was asked to scan my BP on entry to the T3 Domestic Business lounge. Light went green, no worries.

Looking to see similar happen for an MH BP next month.

Interesting...maybe I just come across as honest and harmless!

They can scan your card instead of BP - for those not travelling without a BP (eg if you want to just scan your card at the gate).

In Brisbane because the J lounge is within the QP, once you get in the QP you only ever have to visually show your card or BP to get in the J lounge (and even then you could probably just walk in without being questioned). If you were ever downgraded to SG and still have a WP card it would get you in 99 times out of 100.

Yes.
I suspect its just them saying "we are watching your every move"

This thread would certainly indicate that they're watching:

I've scanned into SYD int'l J lounge twice, and received a "oh, you've already been through", and waved straight in. It sounded more like surprise than anything else.

I've also noticed the international lounges tend to spend some time admitting you, whereas the domestic lounges simply scan your BP (if that) and let you straight in. Any ideas what they're actually doing behind the scenes?

Question for the brains trust - I'm flying QF SYD-PER via MEL, my MEL-PER has been upgraded to J, not the first leg though - can I use the lounge in SYD before my trip, or only during the layover?

Only in MEL, not SYD.

Didn’t happen in MEL yesterday. I guested two people in and neither scanned.
Guests don’t have to be flying so not sure why they would be scanning BPs

I been 'checked' before at Syd QP a cuppla months ago. Maybe I should have explained I went out and bought some decent breakfast rather than eat the miserable offerings in the lounge.
