Qantas lounge shoe policy - this is concerning

Did you need more time to think of some more extreme examples?

I stand by my opinion. Slackening of rules and standards is why society is degrading in front of your eyes. Not some cruel twist of fate.

But please continue to rubbish my opinion.

I can come up with many more, but I think I've made my point. Society moves forward, even if it has to drag some people kicking and screaming along with it.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

Apologies about the OH&S things... what I meant when I raised it was simply 'safety'. I was making the point that rules should be based on some sort of sound basis and reasoning, and that 'closed footwear' could almost (just about) be argued in the basis of safety... lounges have glassware, trolleys, passenger wheelie bags etc.

Don't be depressed John - It really isn't that bad. It is the nature of youth to rebel. I can remember being 16 (in the 60s), and playing Times are a'changing really, really loud to annoy my parents and wearing hot pants when they first came out and then drifting around in Caftans and hanging out with guys with long hair. Eventually though I did what all youth do, which is joined the establishment, started my own business, became quite prissy and started trying to make my kids conform :)

The Y generation/millennials can be annoying - particularly when they want it all without doing the hard yards. On the other hand I love my kids' friends and most of them are actually quite idealistic and caring and they will outgrow their anti- establishment phase as well.

Not sure it's progress to be dumbing down the standards of every possible venue to Cory Worthington levels...

You'll note I said "mostly" better. For the record I think QF is absolutely correct to enforce a dress code. Their implementation however is rather poor IMHO.

But after the older generation has died off they become the older generation wondering why the younger ones have no standards.
And so it goes.

Exactly what I was getting at. Their pubic hair no sooner sprouts and it creeps north eventually ending up a nice grey shade spouting from eyebrows, nostrils and ears with such virility a good whipper snipper can't control it and said youth looks in the mirror one day and exclaims "holy mother of Jesus, I'm in the "older" generation..........and why are all these louts wearing thongs in my lounge"! ;)

I like keeping afoot of all new shoe policies. Indeed, these posts go to the sole of the site, and I love reading these sort of treads (I'm normally so straight laced though!)

I'll..see myself out now. I hope I don't slipper on these floors. They are bit wit.

Oh goodie, lets trot out that cliche again. Baby boomers only have themselves to blame if their kids are entitled brats. On the other hand, the Gen Ys I know (including myself) have worked our cough off to get where we are.

Those in glass slippers should not cast stones! ;)

My kids have all worked very hard as well - I wasn't referring to them (or you). However I did have employees who seemed to think they should have some of my senior staff's positions 6 weeks after starting. i know one young thing who has just started a Uni course in environmental science and asked me how she would go about getting a job as a CEO of a not for profit when she finished :) Not a generalisation to all of that age but they do exist - I blame it on their education where everyone was told they were winners as well as the parents who told their kids that they were totally special (Now the parents and teachers can attack me. :) ).

And here I was thinking Fluoridation was the probem, but No!, it's thongs in qantas lounges.

Wait till we get onto the people who crowd their trolleys around the luggage belts. On the people who stop dead in their tracks as soon as they set foot on a travelator. Or the gate lice...

I say lets raise the standards.

Smoking jackets after dark, red chesterfields and pipes and cigars only.

Matt
PS, that give me an idea for the BAM.

Come on people we're being a bit silly here. Let's get back to basics. QF wants to make their lounges a bit of a better experience than your average boarding lounge. To that end they have enforced some dress standards, fairly common for similar establishments. Sure there have been a few problems but do any of you really think overall this is a bad idea ? Is it too hard to put on a pair of shoes ? Just leave your beach wear for the beach and not the QP or the Casino or any restaurant or club. You can't wear it there so don't wear it here, simple. (Flame suit on)

Yep, if the only shoes you can afford to bring in the lounge are thongs, then you probably can't afford to travel.

I know what gate lice means now thank you tick âœ

FYI, sandals are shoes. Whether you like it or not.

By your definition, apparently. Not by mine. Please don't be so arrogant as to assume that your definition is the only one that could possibly be correct.

Other people do have a right to an alternate opinion.

That was the dentist who thought fluoridation was the problem.

It's decay in standards that's the problem. The "it's all about me" generation.

But that's OK. Walk around with eyes closed and there is no problem.
