Qantas meals

...had Penne with Riccotta and Pumpkin and was quite tasty...
+1 for the penne w/ricotta and pumpkin. Its surprisingly good, at least in my book particularly for that time of day. Not too heavy and a good 'snack' in-between meals.

I recall a similar special from Woolies before Christmas of 2 x 30 can packs Coke for about $30. Don’t think that’s as cheap overall, but we’re stocked up for next month now!
Coles in WA Metro was doing 2x 24-can packs of Coke varieties for $25 at least on Christmas eve when I did my shopping.

Yes, sucker for punishment. Did a food shop on Christmas eve.

Not quite correct, QF have a dual supply arrangement in place with Coca-Cola/Coca-Cola Amatil and Pepsi/Scwheppes. QF stock several Pepsi/Scwheppes products but not their colas....yet.

Obviously something exclusive with Cola for CCA rather than the other.

And as someone mentioned, Pepsi Max is on sale at the moment. In fact, it's rarely not on special. It's always cheaper than Coke Zero whenever i've looked. I know very few people who like it (other than the ones on here ;))

Prior to the existence of Coke Zero, when the choice was Diet Coke or Pepsi Max, I always chose Pepsi Max. I would be happy for either the replace Diet Coke on Qantas. I suggested Coke Zero, as that would be the more likely candidate to replace it.

Frosty Fruit was also dished out on ADL-PER the other day. Was quite a nice change compared to the usual ice creams :)

What is the saying :?:

You can't please all of the people etc.......

  • Can anyone name a carrier that operates intra-Europe that offers a hot meal in Y? Last time I flew LH I was on the first flight of the day out and the last flight of the day back. Perhaps the latter I wouldn't expect a meal (we got a rather boring sandwich), but on the first flight of the day we only got a sandwich, too. I flew BA from LHR-FRA as well, but I was in CE and got a deli platter (cold sliced meat, sliced salmon, creme fraiche, piece of cheese) with bread roll and tub of yoghurt. No idea what the great unwashed :p got.
BA does offer hot meals on intra-Europe flights in Y at lunch and dinner time, but ONLY on longer flights (I think flights over 3 hours), such as ATH, LCA, IST etc. I think they might also be offering hot breakfast on shorter intra-Europe flights but I am not sure.

An old thread worth reviving.

I experienced breakfast yesterday on the early QF from MEL to BRI - Economy. No more cereal or warm roll - replaced by some yoghurt with grit in it topped with red goo - something called "Bircher Muesli". Teh warm roll was replced bya prepackaged lump of dough. I have also never seen apples so small or sour.

I know Q is run by accountants but this cost cutting thing is getting ridiculous. I'm seriously thinking of taking my own sandwiches on board.

As an aside I flew from MEL to HKG recently in J - no hot breakfast. Not that I even liked the hot "breakfasts" but it would be nice to have the option.

A 'prepackaged lump of dough'? Like a rock hard roll in a packet? I know it can't sound good, but just to make sure it wasn't playdough that the caterer's kids slipped into the food trays...

I find it odd that they decided to put Bircher Muesli in. Must be the same as the stuff they give out at the QP. It doesn't taste bad in the QP but serving it onboard must dry it out pretty bad.

When I flew BNE to HKG it was the same. We left close to midnight and it was a 9-ish hour flight. Supper first (rather substantial) and a continental breakfast order-by-hotel-card in the morning before landing.

I wouldn't mind having the option of a hot breakfast too, although I can see the "reasoning". It does make me wonder what the Y pax get (hopefully some breakfast too, not just, say, a roll or a tub of yoghurt).

How would you know?

The bircher muesli was in a nicle little plastic cup with a foil top. Everything ws prepackaged - apart from the sour apples.

A few months back on a flight around 5 pm or so where they announced, as they normally do, that dinner was to be served in Y. It arrived in the form of a big stale looking sandwich in a wrapper. Not much filling and way too filling if you know what I mean.

I remarked, somewhat tongue in cheek (it was cleaving to my cheek with hunger at that point)to the FA that if the spouse had served this up at home and called it "dinner" there would probably be a divorce. Was gruffly told I could take it or leave it. Don't you just love the service!

There is no hot breakfast in F on QF29 either. But I was still full from the late supper at QF Flounge, so only had the yoghurt - was asked a few times if this is all I wanted.

had a Gluten free lunch the other day.
Domestic Y. Melb - Sydney.
wasn't bad for Gluten free bread actually. yes, stalish....(no such word, i think), but eatable. most GF Bread is stale anyway. filled with anti-pasta vegetables. not that i'm a vegetarian, but it was OK>

To avoid Bircher Muesli, select a Diabetic meal for the flight.

My latest squeeze is vegan, and he always gets lovely meals when we travel in QF together - last time was a tomato lentil ragout with rissoni and veg - he even got a a beautiful fresh banana, while the rest of us got the shelf packaged fruit salad. He was served first, too. I must admit I like the food on QF, I think they do a pretty good job of it. Especially the icecream or cookie at the end of the flight!!! :p

That sounds very nice… I might have to become a vegan for a few of my upcoming flights :)

The longer flights stand out for the food, nothing like that for shorter flights, yesterdays lunch was a quiche and an apple. Breakfast last week was the norm but the crew came back 5 times offering extras!

I flew F and there wasn't any hot breakfast...I sent a letter off and waiting a response

They still give you Corn Flakes and skim milk?
Yep,I was on QF 513 on Thursday and my diabetic breakfast consisted of corn flakes with skim milk,a small packet of dried apricots,oj,and a small ginger and raspberry muffin.
Cheers
