Qantas MEL-HKG QF29/30 Delayed; A380 for SYD-HKG route

Strangely although the email says I will be routed through Sydney, QF29 time has changed to 12:45 but still showing direct MEL-HKG.

I wonder @geezy90 whether the Mel-HKG flights are now with Sydney added in/on?

We have just been notified of a later departure QF30 by 1 hr 55 mins in September but still direct flight - 9 hrs 25 minutes.
Oh well, 23 weeks to re-jig!

Interesting thought. Under airline lingo, "direct" can still have stops - QF1 SYD-LHR and QF9 MEL-LHR are still 'direct' despite the stops where you have to get off the aircraft. Compare 'nonstop.'

However in this case QF29/30 are still being advertised with zero stops on the QF web site, from June onwards it seems.

AFF'ers would have a field day if the flight stopped in Sydney and you could book on the tag flights - F lounge, flying an A380, MEL-SYD? ;)

More likely it seems QF IT is still awash in work experience kids and people who only got a time change, also got the cover letter about re-routing via Sydney even when it didn't apply.

I just hope my QF29 Melbourne to HK flight (that's just been re-timed 2hrs back) in October isn't re-routed via Sydney.

Currently it's an A330 that's been scheduled, but if from / via Sydney, it may be an A380 instead?

The only (begrudgingly) acceptable circumstance would be if ALL QF A380s were retrofitted with the new 1-2-1 business class layout - therefore NO chance of getting the old horrible 2-2-2 Skybed business class layout.

The current A330 1-2-1 product *is* old / tired looking, but is still better than the A380 2-2-2 layout.

QF29 on 23/7 cancelled and re-routed through Sydney. Saturday flight on 22/7 still running direct. Wonder if there a confirmed new schedule or if they are cancelling flights on an as needed basis day by day.

Agree about direct v non stop (should have mentioned that it was non stop)

I am half hoping it is A380 @jpp42 !

IMO, this timing/route will change more than once before we fly 😉

This is the current explanation for flights until June @awah !

My QF29 on Sep 27 has zeroed out ... I think I may be taking a harbour-city detour!!

[Cardinal sin of responding to my own post!]

QF29 on 27-SEP has subsequently disappeared from EF. Logging into MMB I'm informed I'm now being rerouted by QF412/QF127. No explicit comms from QF however I am getting the banner in MMB that I need to accept this schedule change ...

Regards,

BD

Almost 12 hours later still saying direct MEL-HKG and still says aircraft A330. Strange that the email comms to go with the changes specifically say the flight is being rerouted and changed to an A380 service etc. presumably it’s the exact email that went out to people effected when the service was suspended (even says it’s delayed until 20 June which is a month before my departure).

I wonder if an intern forgot to change the comms attached to the flight number, so the scheduling change (+2:25hr) triggered the outdated email to be pushed to all bookings for QF29?

Yes I think that's almost certainly what happened.

And this email and new e-ticket, except we fly September!
Same as me. On the QF30 flying in September … we might be on the same flight 😝😝😝… new e-ticket came along with same email. No option to accept or deny the changes. CMT actually notified me first of the schedule change. My booking is part of a OWR redemption so I am glad that I got a new eticket. I checked rj and mh and all partner airline flights still there. 😅 call me paranoid but qantas doesn’t have a good track record right now LOL 😂

@mx838383 we are Sat 23rd - maybe a catch up in Lounge?!

The ability to book paid QF30 disappeared a few weeks ago, we then felt relief when it came back online this week.
Our booking is CR J, though reckon I'd be stressing big time if OWA 🤞for us both

Sorry.. I am 19th departure. Otherwise it would be great to do a lounge meetup. 😊 Hoping everything is smooth sailing by Sept for us.

Got a plane type notification change from EF this morning for QF127 on May 31st, changing from A388 to A388, so it looked like no change.

But now when go to seat map/configuration it is showing the reconfigured 1-2-1 setup (previously was 2-2-2).

Our seats in row 5 of F (sold as J) cabin held across the change on QF site (bit worried as a NB that somehow managed to snag a couple seats in F and really want to hold onto them!)

From mid-may I think they switch to a mix of A330 and A380 on different days on this route, can't remember the switch day from straight A380

That means they plan to operate it with a reconfigured A380. It seems like they maybe are rejuggling the fleet usage so that the non-refurbished A380 (VH-OQL, I think), is no longer on every flight of QF127/128.
