Qantas most expensive excess baggage fees in the world?

I still don't think you are understanding. On a kg ticket, they would charge per kg, and am sure it wouldn't have been 100GBP per kilo, unless there were other airlines involved with the flight. On a piece ticket that would charge per piece up to 23kgs and would be around that 100GBP price point.

On the contrary I understand very well. You can either accept what I wrote which is accurate (other than the maths typo) or not. Your choice.

I have only been charged excess baggage once and that was in January this year. One suitcase at 25kg on VA - PER>BNE>POM. Cost $120.

I know I was 2kg overweight on one suitcase but as a VA Platinum I am technically allowed 3 x 23kg so I was a tad annoyed.

Anyways, it turns out that this was the catalyst to review my relationship with VA and from my next trip out of Perth I have booked QF. My estimate is that for $120 in excess baggage VA have lost around $40,000 per annum in revenue!

The VA website shows the baggage allowance for WP's on short haul international flights is 3 pieces @ 23kg except for the Go fare which is 2 @ 23kg.

It does say that a heavy fee applies on excess of 23kg on all econony fares so I'm assuming they ping WP's for this as well.

VA don't mention anywhere on their website what the heavy fee is however there was some reference on AFF back in 2013 of it being AUD40.00 per piece although that may have been for domestic.

AUD120.00 for just a heavy fee sounds a bit steep given that the cost of an extra bag (not that you needed it) paid at the airport is AUD130.00.

VA used to be very generous towards their elite, but recently (probably about 6 months ago?) they became much more restrict, to the point of sending an internal memo to all their check in staff instructing them not to let people get away with the slightest of over-weight luggage (even for their Plats).

Great way to lose loyal, high spending customers

If I were you I would make sure I would leave this feedback for VA via multiple channel (FB, Tweeter, etc). Whether they take it on board or not is up to them, but we, as a society, seem not to provide as much tractable feedback as we should (versus just whinging when things don't go our way---not that your feedback is in anyway sounds like whinging).

...and yet people of this board bang on about consistency, and how airlines need to be consistent.

...and then when airlines enforce rules consistently, they start banging on about common sense. and loyalty.

Excess baggage fees are one thing, but the fees on top of award seat bookings internationally especially in J are simply outrageous.

Yep! VA check in staff used to be very friendly and they would bend over backwards for customers; now my interactions are usually very friendly but it turns very robotic during luggage weigh-in (just keep a discreet eye on the face of the check in staff next time; there is usually a slight smile during the interaction except during the weigh-in phase).

hossein_au. You bet I did but all I got was the standard reply. I normally travel without cabin baggage between Perth and PNG but on this occasion I needed to take things back there hence weighing in at 25kg. I am also sure that on other occasions when I had a suitcase just over 23kg I wasn't charged.

They probably have started enforcing it in the last six months as you say. Anyway, it was the catalyst to make me start looking at going back to QF. That and the general downhill spiral of VA service coupled with almost no A330's on the PER>BNE>PER sector.

Katiebell. Yes, looks like they have lost one here!
