Re: Qantas tightening up further on lounge passes?

Further developments! I just now received an email from Qantas asking me if I want to buy entry to the Qantas Club for myself and my companion for our flight on Wednesday. $49 each. It seems as though Qantas now intends to control this trade by setting a ceiling price while they tighten up supply.

QF have been providing this offer now for about ~12 months or so.

I'd say more like a floor price. They only offer this when you're flying outside of peak time and they don't expect the lounge to be too busy.

Remember that you can buy discount Qantas Club membership through AFF.

Didn't realise this. Have they also been soliciting Silver & Bronze QFF members with an upcoming flight to purchase QC passes?

Yes. When I was PS last year, they offered me access to the MEL QP for $49. Flight was departing early afternoon on a Sunday.

Re: Qantas tightening up further on lounge passes?

I think "exclusive lounge invitation" sounds a bit better than "soliciting" and on a recent trip access to Brisbane QP was offered for $39. Renovations are now close to complete and it was worthwhile for a decent sandwich lunch (and a few drinks) prior to an early afternoon Monday flight.

Hi leetripper,
I am also LTS and recently received the annual letter and the QP virtual invitation.
My wife and I are flying to US in a couple of weeks so will be interesting to see if I get a similar offer to purchase entry. Thankfully I have a couple of passes in hand, otherwise the single annual LTS invite would be frustrating for us as a couple.
Now retired I only travel a couple times per year so QP membership just doesn't stack up, and the ability to acquire the occasional pass was optimal.

Re: Qantas tightening up further on lounge passes?

From comments above it seems the pay-for-entry scheme is being limited to quieter times in the lounges. I note there are still 20+ offers of physical passes for sale on Ebay - some of them for multiples. The prices also appear to be creeping up a bit. Perhaps due to anticipated scarcity. Personally can't see the value in paying a lot for time in the domestic lounges. International is a bit different because you often end up with a bit of buffer time to kill and it's nice to take a long shower prior to boarding!

Re: Qantas tightening up further on lounge passes?

I thought this too at first, but many CC's also come with the passes, so I'm sure some will still come in physical format.

For the credit cards that attract free passes I don't imagine it's too hard for them to have QF push your free pass to your account along with whatever points bonus you also earn.

Further to what I posted back in March, it seems invitations from credit card spend do indeed get sent digitally now. I have a year to work out who to donate them to.

I would remove your upcoming flight PNR from the website extract...

I agree. If anyone knows or guesses your surname they could view your booking details, change your allocated seat etc.

Thank you for the heads up, but reporting the post in future can yield a quicker response ;)

A friend sent me a PM this evening alerting me to the issue  and all is now fixed.

I just came across a packet of 10 guest cards in my drawer from the days before they dated them - therefore there is no use by date. Anyone know if they will allow me to use ?

Hi Tony!
Not sure if this old post has any relevance so long down the track (I've only just re-joined despite getting regular emails from AFF somehow my subscription continued but my membership vanished).
