Qantas Mystery Flight Adventure

Didn't fly one of their wifi enabled jets? Or didn't trust everyone to do it whilst airborne?

Making the announcement in the lounge versus once airborne wouldn't seem overly different in terms of timing.

The telecast particularly mentioned passengers being told early. Also, there would assistance in the lounge, and printers if no smart phones. I have friends who still have old mobiles. Plus staff could confirm everyone was sorted before boarding.

That’s probably why the announcement was made in the lounge, so everyone could go online to complete their application.
Yep if you watch the video. The pilot had to spoil it in the lounge because they needed to sort out covid border permits. All three of the mystery flights were on wifi-enabled jets and flightaware actually showed the correct destination shortly after takeoff so not as mysterious as QF would want you to believe (unless they left wifi turned off).

Each to their own but I'd actually be more inclined to do something like this in the future if I knew where I was going. Some destinations that I think would be good, Longreach (737 to the museum from SYD/MEL/BNE), Birdsville (Dash 8 to the Races from BNE), Norfolk Island (737 from BNE/SYD/MEL), Bundaberg (from SYD or MEL). There are a few airports in QLD that don't have any regular services but have a runway long enough for a Dash 8 from Brisbane like Palm Island (was featured on Amazing Race), Bowen or Parkes.

Oh, well. Probably better than MEL-AVV. I guess that’s possible as a ‘charter’. 😀
