Qantas' New A321XLR

Qantas’ new aircraft shown on channel nine today. It had German registered ID on the fuselage (D). Any of the wise owls know why?
New aircraft are owned by the company that is building them, and thus registered in the country where that assembly is taking place.
New Boeings will have an N registration. New A220s will have a C- registration. etc.
Once delivered, the aircraft is re-registered in the home nation of the airline, just as any other aircraft is re-registered if it is sold to another airline at some point.

Disappointed Airbus couldn't make a good pivot bin for the A320neo series and went back to shelf bins. The Boeing Sky Interior looks much better IMO, really opens up the cabin for a better passenger experience. Yes, I know that they're harder to close, though I never had an issue with that.

The issue is cabin crew have a major issue with them
Just the Airbus ones? Or even the BSI ones that are on some of the current 737 NG's.

Then again, the A220 has pivot bins so is it that big of a deal? Similarly with A350, 787 and 777, do the crews hate flying on those planes too?

Not a huge fan of these Recaro seats, let’s see if the fabric makes them somewhat more comfortable.

Appears Airbus has updated the overhead panels and walls again. Noted this on the Jetstar A320N deliveries. A321Ns earlier models had the normal flat curved walls.

The issue is with pivot style on 737/787.

A380 isn't such an issue as it's only on the upper deck and first but they also have electrical assistance and generally less bags per locker due to less passengers averaged per locker.

On the 737/787 it requires two crew to close them. Think of a 737 and a crew members closing 30/40 odd lockers every flight, up to 4 times a day with bags that don't always get weighed, so could easily be 50/60kg plus - no wonder crew don't like it.

Looks like just the 2 toilets at the back, hopefully they wont be put on transcon flights.
If they use the 737 for transcon flights they would surely use this newer plane too for that eventually. More seats to be able to sell than on the 737, especially in Business.

It’ll take time though to get a decent fleet of these, so they may mainly be used on a smaller number of routes at first and more over time.

I meant hopefully they dont get put on transcon flights while only having 2 toilets for Y - that's bad enough on the 737 with 20 less Y seats.

Later deliveries will be fitted with 3 toilets.

The first 3 will come kitted out that way, with subsequent aircraft getting an additional toilet. Apparently, an extra toilet will be retrofitted to the first three in due course.

I'm sure that smarter people than me know why but the retro fit plan seems silly and time consuming.

Haven’t flown QF domestic J for a while, but I hope there’s a solid increase in cabin crew resources for business class with the almost doubling of seats.

Do we know how many crew members will be allocated?

Will have an increase on the 737, which is 4, to 5.

Also, the curtain is back for the divider, but again the first 3 won't have it and will get it when the 3rd toilet is installed too. 4th onwards will have the curtain between Y/J.

Missed opportunity to install a J cabin like AA, lie-flat for flights to DPS/Asia etc.

I guess when there's limited competition, they can get away with it

I'm still of the opinion IFE, at least in the form of an ipad, should be given to Business class as quite often people only have a phone or laptop available and with the fold out tray you can't use you phone to watch content during the meal service and particularly in Business as the gap to the seat/bulkhead is larger, using your phone as the IFE device is much worse then in Economy as the smartphone screen is just a lot more smaller.
