Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

My inside information from a QF manager is that the system allocates seating by priority based on status.

Local staff have less choice in moving people around than previously.

The system aligns to the Amadeus booking system.

Hi all,

What happens if there are multiple Plat's on each flight, how then does the system work out who sits where?

Is it based on years of platinum/alphabetical order/price of ticket/luck?

The OLCI system has given this humble PS (approaching SG) a 738 exit row window for the third time in a row BNE - CNS. A WP scored the B seat beside me. See how I go TSV - BNE on Thursday:mrgreen:

A Brisbane - Perth flight I took a few months ago I noticed everyone in the exit isle was over 6'4" tall. They arrived separately and weren't travelling together so the "basketball team theory" was out.

Made me wonder if tall people get tagged in the system to get priority in those seats.

It would be nice to think that this was the case .... but apparently short Platinums with broom handles inserted are also very tall.

Cheers,

My guess would be cost of airfare or booking class is used to break the deadlock and if there is still no clear priority then the system may look at years of membership or status or some sort of weighting system taking into consideration importance of the passenger to QF.

hmm, i am flying F MEL-BKK next week and it has allocated me 1A from SYD-BKK and no allocation so far from MEL-SYD in J. I will have to ring up and ask for either 4AK or 3AK as I like those rows the best when getting the rare chance to fly F. Maybe one day QF will allow on line seat selection or allow your profile to select specific seats.

QF to not allow pre-allocation for domestic flights, so you won't see anything allocated until you check-in for the flight. QF will auto-allocate your domestic seat about 24 hours before scheduled departure - when OLCI opens.

Note, this system is being used for Domestic Flights in OZ - not sure about international flights.

oh ok, i hope it allows me to use OLCI for my MEL-SYD leg as I have an SYD-BKK onward leg on the same booking and I am sure it will not let me OLCI for that leg?

- very little chance of that; one normally cannot OLCI for domestic connections of international flights (when on the same booking).

Got 11D for this 738 operated service, no different from before as I'd usually be allocated something around rows 11-13.

Flew to BNE last weekend and online seating showed as

was able to change to 8B and 8C

On the Sunday on way back at "live person" checkin, it again cam up with 7C and 6C, checkin changed it to 6C and 6B.

The checkin lady asked what my wife's profile said and we said window !!

She said system had a number of weird results.

Sounds like what happened to me - the old profiles just said 'forward window' and didn't give any precedent to either characteristic. I invariably got a window seat close to the front of Y. When they introduced the new system, the profiles changed so that you could give priority to forward or priority to window - the default translation from the old 'forward window' setting gives forward the priority over window. I have since changed my profile to read 'window, forward' but have my first dom Y since the change this Sunday, so I will have to see what gets allocated...

<edit> scratch that - have just re-read garyjohn951's post and that is not what he is saying... foot in mouth disease strikes again! </edit>

Would be interested to see whether other Oneworld Emeralds get treated the same as QF Platinum when it comes to seat allocations under the new system.

Yesterday I was allocated 19D on a 734 flight, on a full Y fare. I changed that to 13D using OLCI. When I boarded, the QF Platinum member sitting in 13C was not a happy camper. She was complaining to all and sundry that as a Platinum FF member she has regularly been seated in the second half of the cabin. Obviously I have no idea what fare she was travelling on. She said she has written to QF to complain on several occasions. Check-in staff have told her it was due to a glitch in the new software - take that however you like.

I am WP Forward Aisle
My wife is SG Forward Window

we regularly travel 8 - 10 times a year together over last three years and ALL those trips my preference was taken with her getting B or E seats, which was the way the system used to work,

Just OLCIed. 7C for flight back tomorrow, also a 738.

These are all booked in O.

Conversely I'm having a fantastic time with the new software/process! Always fly full Y/B - used to get about 7/8 now 3 trips i have had 4,5,4! Plus first row (usually 23) on the 767! Only a Gold here.
