I've found that the Coles/Wololies fuel-discount barcodes only work around 75% of the time, the remaining times it won't scan and the console operator has to use one they already have.

Dave

Yes same! Never work - they have to key it in manually.

I hope QF doesn't resort to using Virgin's cheapie style of boarding pass, it really is like a supermarket reciept, twice mine has torn off the backing document it has either been stickytaped or stapled to....

Interesting! The only time a barcode did not scan was because I got the docket wet and the barcode smudged. Every other occassion it has scanned straight away.

May your local Fuel reseller keeps their scanner clean or indeed, has better quality equipment.

Interesting. I have actually found these to be quite reliable. Very rarely get a docket that does not scan.

Arent US domestic flights (where the PAX print their own BP at check in at the airport) non-mag stripe BPs?

AA´s OLCI and NZ´s are both non-mag stripe. Although AA also has mag stripe BPs for those needing manual check in, NZ does too but only for international (domestic are all bar codes only).

Any problems with scanning OLCI BP now at Syd T3?

I'm off to Adel tomorrow and have done OLCI...and printed out my BP...1C:mrgreen:
Are the QF staff at Syd able to scan the printed BP now, or should I swap it for a standard BP at the airport?

PS: Should be at Syd T3 QP from 0915 to 1000 tomorrow am if anyone around...and happy to bring 1 guest in;) PM if so...

My experience is that it will work - you just may have to insist that it is possible, and show them how it works if necessary. Although that was the first week of operation - they all should have come across them by now.

Can you or anyone remind me how it should be done...when I tried it 2 weeks ago, I couldn't get it to scan:mad:

Lay it down, with the "barcode" in line with the barcode indicator on the scanner. Don't move it around at all - it should stay completely still. If it fails on one barcode, merely move to one of the other barcodes that are on your boarding pass.

I used a laser printer with Reflex paper for my pass - I'm not sure if the type of printer you might have used for yours - let us know how it goes!

Couldn't get OLCI to function for my Qlink flights to/from Rockvegas this week. I've tried on 3 separate PC's so it doesn't seem to be a software issue.

I thought I saw at some stage a message saying that this was a non-QF flight - can anyone confirm this, as the FA said it was possible to do OLCI on Qlink.

Thanks for the above advice...when I got to the scanning machine, it didn't look very good when the attendant took my printed boarding pass, and looked and examined it like someone examining a counterfeit bank note...when I mumbled that I had printed it myself with OLCI, she said that she had never seen one before!! What are QF doing about training their staff???:oops:
Anyway, she had no idea how to scan it, and after I tried 3 different bar codes, the machine suddenly went beep, and it worked:lol: She was quite impressed, thanked me for showing her how to do it....and off I went. When I got to the plane and showed my BP to the FA, she said "Oh, your're one of those clever people!"

Wonder whether I should try OLCI again for my 2 flights tomorrow, esp. given the difficulties I had 2 weeks ago in ADL:confused::confused:

PS I used my ancient HP laser printer to print the BP

What ever happened to the SMS check- in ? (SYD-MEL legs only)

That was REALLY great.
SMS QANTAS, and they SMSed back your boarding pass which was a 3D barcode, flight details and the seat allocation. Could get it 'on the road' to the gate !

Then just show the telephone at the gate and on entry to the plane. First time the staff were a little bemused (and actually handed out a preprinted pass), but after a week it was all smooth and the phone sms was all that was needed.

I used it for about two months before the trail discontinued, but it was extremely handy for carry on and saved me heaps of time.

I'm going to be travelling on a domestic 747-300

Both my wife and I are QFF GOLD.

I'm thinking of using online check in and allocating a window seat and an aisle seat where there are 3 seats. (ie betting that the middle seat will be empty)

What are my chances this will happen?

I've heard that if you are QFF gold they sometimes block the seat next to you, if the plane is empty enough.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Chucksta

I suggets you check the loading first. If the flight is relatively full, you may get some hairy-ar..d single traveller (like me) jammed bewteen you...

I have regularly the seat beside me 'blocked' when the flights are low loaded, and Q Check-in staff have specifically advised me of this.. so Yes it does happen.

Had no trouble with my printed BPs at Adl and Mel today...although the GA looked very pleased with herself in Adl when she heard the "beep" from my BP;)

OLCI is great, especially if you only have carry on, and it basically allows you to arrive at the airport 15-20 minutes prior to departure...great if you are running late to the airport, and means that you won't risk arriving "after check in closes"

What self-respecting AFF'er arrives with only 15-20 mins to spare? We all arrive several hours prior, in order to sample the delights of the QP (well, for flights after 1400 anyway).

Trust me Dave...I belong to your school of thought but sometimes one does arrive at the last minute, especially for very early am flights;)

This is what us regular Virgin Blue flyers have been enjoying for some time now. It has enabled me to make flights home that I would otherwise not have made because the BP was already in my pocket!
