Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Re: QF LAX F lounge opens - TBIT

Sure ... the Mumm was a mistake to order - the Burge on QF domestic is better.

The Rose is somewhat better.

I don't mind Mumm, I find some days it tastes better than others. How can they not have Bolly on the menu?

In relation to the cheese selection, the brie/camembert is ok, the other 2 cheeses are exceptional with the blue vein being magnificent.

I was weaned on stuff like Bin 28 so tried the cab-sav. It is more than OK - went well with cheese:

So small menu - still good eating.

Missing the better champagnes by the looks...

The sad thing is, the old TBIT F lounge had Taittinger NV.. but not all the times I've been there in the past few years.

serfty - where is the entrance in relation to the new OW, but pre-F reno layout? ie you walk in and the bar is to the right, the atrium is not too far in front.. it looks like there is a "new" atrium with the F entrance?

Re: QF LAX F lounge opens - TBIT

Thought I would contribute on hubby's experience. Hubby was at the lounge a week after it opened. His impression was non-plus! Since he does not drink, the 15m long bar was a waste on him. He said food was OK, nothing to write home about. He had the bass from the limited menu, and ordered French fries and carrots, but they delivered French fries and sautéed mushrooms! He said he had to wait for 20 minutes for the food order to be taken, as the staff were huddled near the bar area for a pep talk on customer service! But, after that the staff became very attentive, kept asking him every few minutes if everything was alright.

What happens on the aircraft? They can't be served alcohol until the flight has cleared US airspace? I guess this would apply to inbound flights as well??

Reminds me of the scene in Argo, where alcohol is not served until it had cleared iranian airspace.
In this example, the departing flight was JAL to NRT and apparently the Japanese law regarding alcohol consumption is 20yo so would not be served to her onboard. But she never intended to consume alcohol either onboard or in the lounges.

So I wonder what alternate arrangements they make for an 18-21yo F passenger traveling alone? If denying lounge access, would they be told to just go wait at the gate with everyone else who does not qualify for lounge access? Would they be given some form of a voucher to buy a burger/coke in the terminal? Or asked to sit outside the door and have a staff member bring them some food? Be permitted to stand at the door and use lounge WiFi services?

Will be interesting to see if a lounge invitation is provided at F check-in, and how well the staff handle the situation when presenting F boarding pass at the lounge door. I will try to obtain an official ruling from various sources before the travel date.
Reporting back to say that the Qantas First lounge was available for JAL First Class passengers before the notes 10:30am opening time. Buttermilk pancakes were enjoyed for breakfast. The lounge was very empty at that time of day (1 other pax was noted) and service very good. No issues with access. Only juice/softdrink consumed, all delivered to the table/seat by staff. Age not queried.

A little off topic but my comment was tongue in cheek regarding the use of non-English here [occasional well-known / adopted words excepted e.g. voilà etc ...] rather than a factual question per se.

think it is Italian according google translate

Once onboard the rules are those of the flag the airline flies under.

Mr Spud, Mrs Spud and the two youngest chips who were 20 and 17 at the time were all upgraded to J from LAX to SYD. When the FA came around with a bottle of champers, 20 yo piped up and admitted that he was not 21 just yet ( a few weeks off at that stage), to which the FA said "don't worry mate you're on Qantas now". We were still at the gate.

I'll be checking out the new F lounge at TBIT in a few weeks but I cannot believe how un-inspiring these pictures are. http://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/gallery/qantas-unveils-first-lounge-in-la
Not only does the lounge look rather ordinary but what about the terrible media production with a few badly posed models who look like shop assistants from DJ's in an empty lounge and a couple of bewildered looking celebs, then the one of AJ and NP drinking Champagne, ewww! (NV Laurent Perrier btw) Hopefully Todd Sampson will put a stop to some of this terribly tacky and clumsy stuff.

Well, you're right. Maybe Sampson can make himself useful after all.

Celebrities? Can't recognise any. I thought the 3 at the end were just random punters. What are they celebrated for?
