Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Had the opportunity to lounge in QFLAX F lounge with my family.

The first thing I noticed was that it was one big hall with very bright lights. We got there around 1730 for our QF12 and QF94 flights. We managed to get a dining area table but within 30 minutes the whole lounge was chockers. Waiting list for dining.
I got the impression that the waiters were stretched to ensure everyone had a good experience. In the US, it would be incredibly rare to see people trying to get service. We had get the attention of a waiter a couple of times. The busiest time for the F lounge would be in the evenings, and the dining room gets overwhelmed at this time. Several passengers tried to get a dinner service in the lounge area after giving up waiting for dining table.

The bar is very nice but the whole area is too brightly lit.

Showers are great. The main criticism is that there is no ledge to sit on to put on shoes. Just check that the shower recess doors actually close. Mine rubbed up against the tiles and did not properly close.

I think subdued lighting would provide a better ambience, and someway of making the whole lounge appear less than just one big room.

Overall our experience was positive

I'm curious as to what flights people were on? The lounge supposedly seats 200... with a notable portion of that being the dining area.

I got in around 6PM for QF12. The lounge was mostly empty, but it filled up very quickly at 7PM. Quite a few people left the lounge at 8PM for the BA flight. There is one flight though I did not understand why it showed on the screen, it was AF76 to PPT. The SkyTeam lounge is just on the other side and no OW airline codeshare on that flight.

Dont forget that a lot of people in the lounges are there because they have status. Lots of Platinums in the F lounge but most will be flying economy some business.

I'm often such a platinum in said lounge - I wasn't curious about the spread of CoS, just the number of people per given flight as a whole (F/J/whatever).

I think in the evenings:

QF12 (380)
QF94 (380)
QF108 (747)
QF16 (747)

BA268 (380)
CX883 (777)

But soon to be:

QF12 (380)
QF18 (747)
QF16 (747)
QF96 (747)
QF94 (380)

Essentially with the new timetable Qantas are adding a 747 (364 passengers) per day.

Im not sure the proportion of each flight that have access to lounges. Certainly all of F and J but proportion of W and Y - no idea.

TBIT in the evenings is a crazy place. All seating in lounges and also in main departure areas are taken up by people looking extremely bored. Precheckin area there are always people sitting on the floors waiting for their checkin to open...fortunately for Qantas checkin is always open early.....

Sometimes Im inclined even with lounge access to book a room at a nearby airport hotel - and get a private room, better than lounge dining, better than lounge showers. Especially when travelling as a family...
LAX has free transfers to airport hotels.....
If no lounge access then definitely get a room.

Was in the J lounge a week and a half ago before the inaugural QF96. As it leaves earlier (7:30pm) than the other QF flights it meant the lounge was actually quite quiet when I arrived there around 3pm after my flight from DEN. It meant I could have a shower, food, and a few drinks (including an amazing whisky sour) in relative peace and quiet. The lounge got noticeably busier around 6pm as people started arriving for the later QF flights. I'll certainly look at getting on QF96 rather than QF94 in the future if only for the better lounge access and also earlier departure.

Haha we were in the F lounge after flight from DEN on Jan 20. Did you fly the AA Eagle operated by Mesa airlines from DEN?

Odd and I think it's a DL code share so that's skyteam all the way. Perhaps it was a one-off situation. Broken plumbing across the hall or something.

Probably a CL in the lounge

I'm on QF96 in a few weeks, with a 6:30pm departure. I'm counting on the lounge being quiet preceding that! (Although 5:00am arrival in MEL is a bit ordinary)

Is the AA FL in T4 now a dead option now that this lounge is operational ?

Certainly the menu alone is already better.

Now that everyone is flocking to Neil Perry inspired foods, I bet the FL would be a quiet haven for those who crave such thing.

I'm a big fan.of the AA FL, service is great and always quiet.
However it may be superior to all USA lounges but IMO still not a patch on QF FL .
AA Lounge has usually only 1 maybe 2 good options to choose from and they have never been even cafe quality. Though I have had a nice thanksgiving turkey there once.
Drinks quality is good but choice is average
Whilst I prefer AA FL over the new business lounge at LAX, that is only due to the crowd and the decor
I am going to be really disappointed if th new FL does not stack up to it AU based versions.

AF76 has been listed every single time that I have been there...

LAX First Class lounge. It's not even a Second class lounge. The bathrooms at Chadstone are better! Another embarrassing failure for Qantas. Why though? What are they thinking?
