Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Son of a beech. Was looking forward to checking out the lounge on my trip to LA in May.

What would be the best lounge to use now as a WP/OneWorld Emerald? The OneWorld website lists two in the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The OneWorld Los Angeles Lounge on level 5 or the Los Angeles International Lounge on level 4? Or is the LA International Lounge restricted to JAL/Malaysia Airlines passengers?

I will be there mid May and plan to stay in T4 at the AA Flagship lounge and transfer to TBIT at the last minute.

this assumes you are flying into T4 on AA like I am

The delay sux. Have a trip on 31st May returning 11th June and was looking forward to seeing the new lounge.
Had thought that since completion was planned for April end of May would be perfect and plenty of time to be up and running and even took into account possible slight delays.
They have to be some pretty major delays to push it back 2-3 months.
I guess it's just the old J lounge or AA in T4 for me :(

Unfortunately I'm flying straight out of LAX that evening.

I will be able to sample the AA Flagship lounge in T4 as I'm flying AA from LAX to New York partway through my trip. Is the LAX lounge like the AA Flagship lounge at JFK? That was nice (and quiet when I used it), but of course nowhere near as nice as the Qantas International First lounges in Sydney or Melbourne.

Where are you flying in from and onwards to? How longe di you have at LAX?

The LAX Flagship Lounge is maybe a little better than the JFK lounge but not by that much. Certainly better than any domestic AAdmirals Club.

I would say Flagship at T4 LAX is closer to Melb INT J lounge in terms of drinks and snacks, so more than acceptable

They have good cognac in the T4 Flagship, better than what they have in QF F lounge in SYD or MEL.

Ah, apologies, I didn't phrase my post clearly. I meant that I'm flying to Sydney directly from Los Angeles TBIT on QF12, rather than flying in from another US city and transferring to my Qantas flight. So I have no reason to be in Terminal 4 that evening.

However, a couple of weeks prior to my return to Australia I will be flying from LA to New York (and back) on AA, and will be able to sample the LAX AA Flagship Lounge in Terminal 4 at that time.

I've not been to the US very often so have only ever visited the Flagship Lounge and never the Admirals Club. Upon seeing my Emerald status, the staff member at the desk led me directly into the Flagship Lounge at JFK. She had to unlock the door and everything, so it felt very exclusive! Felt like a right royal wanker (platinum) stepping through that doorway. :p

If there is a long enough transit, then the 10m walk to Terminal 4 for the Flagship Lounge is definitely worthwhile even if departing from TBIT. However, on a short leash, such as the stop on QF108, then it is impossible.

The security at T4 will not let you enter the terminal without a boarding pass leaving from T4. That has been my experience as T4 and TBIT are not connected airside for outgoing passengers but are for incoming immigration at times.

I've managed it a couple of times - the last time maybe a year ago though. Depends on how closely the AA agent at the escalator looks at the BP. The TSA folks at actual security obviously do look closely at the BPs and apparently didn't have a problem.

YMMV

I have had the same experience as RooFlyer. One time, the AA staff noticed that I did not have a T4 boarding pass but when I explained myself they let me through anyway.

Latest April LAX newsletter has nothing more on central core construction so no idea about the delay

Depends upon how long you have at LAX.

2 hours or less then I'd go strait to TBIT, anything longer and I'd use T4.

I am arriving from a flight from MCO into T4. So I assume I will check in at MCO, passed security at T4 and use the AA Flagship Lounge, and shuttle to TBIT? :D - sorry newbie travelling to the US. How much time do I need to allow for the shuttle from T4 to TBIT? So, I won't have problem getting into T4 as my flight is from TBIT?

You won't have to go through security at LAX T4. Only security checkpoint you'll have to go through will be the complete zoo and chaos that is MCO. There are a few calls made in the T4 Flagship lounge to remind QF PAX to make their way to TBIT. The shuttle is every 15-30 min.

I see, so passport control would be at MCO.

You can also exit T4 and walk to TBIT and go through security again. The whole exercise didn't take us very long and we couldn't find the shuttle so just walked. The terminals are next door to each other - we might have been lucky that there were no queues at TBIT security - don't know what it is usually like.

When is the new LA lounge opening?

Anyone know or been through lax lately and have an idea when the new QF J tbit lounge might open?
i know it was delayed till may/June but no news has come out since. Hoping for may and not June.

If this is the wrong place to ask I can start a new thread somewhere else
