Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Great, will be there tomorrow and will check it out.

Actually I only have a 90min transfer in LAX so I hope I get to go.

Can you let us know if there are any self service drinks there? All the pics show bar or waiter service both of which of course would be tip-able (by convention).

Not the end of the world but another hassle in needing a certain amount of US$1 notes when we are travelling less and less with cash (especially on departure, if you judge it right!)

Looks great, and great to see Oneworld partners co-operating, hope to see more instances like this! :)

Good work QF!

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Is this just a copy and paste job by the IT intern or should we be expecting an announcement from JQ that they'll be flying into LAX? ;)

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Just situated myself in the lounge - taking advantage of the early checkin to give myself maximum time before QF108. About 6hrs.

Plenty of familiar faces around (Neil Perry and David Flynn) and obviously some of the QF brass who I don't know precisely their names but they look familiar.

Was going to sit by the fire place but some cameramen were grabbing some footage and I thought I save them the hassle of photoshopping me out later.

Wifi a very very nice 47 down and 43 up. Let's see how that holds up as the place fills up. But it's a Good starting point.

Everyone very friendly and welcoming.

There is a pre mix machine in one corner. Haven't established yet whether is free access or just for staff. Haven't spied any self service alcoholic beverages just yet. Will update as I explore further.

Look forward to enjoying a few cold ones in the lounge whilst lamenting the loss of almost 50% of QF points earned under the current arrangements!

Sorry to be the guy OT!

See, I'm in the non-tippable camp, if you're offering me free drinks then by definition still asking me for a tip = no longer free.
If you offer drinks by tip (and I have been to parties where the drinks where free, but it was expressly explained that you where still expected to leave a tip) then that's a different story, and I'll happily leave a tip behind.

The other issue is lining up and waiting for service..

Yeah, I was thinking of that too, but didn't want to be too negative on the Lounge's first day!

(BTW the way I figure it, slow service gives you lots of opportunity for you to observe that a service IS being provided and ahem ... you know what comes next! Same reason why wait-persons in Nth America are continually interrupting meal conversations with questions like 'Everything all right here?)

I always thought that wait persons in Nth America did that so that you didn't sit there fuming over a small problems and thus affecting the size of the tip at the end.

Back on topic, the new lounge certainly looks good, and I can't wait to try it out later this year. :D

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Oh dear ... I hope QF aren't looking for a "hat-trick" with this one ...

Singapore, Hong Kong, Los Angeles ... If they're true to form, the next move will be the cessation of A380 services and dropping of flights from the closest QF port - no more BNE-LAX ... JQ A330s for Queenslanders - you saw the very made-up rumour here first folks!! :D

Regards,

BD

Was that me?

Indeed why go to the effort of providing decent on-board service when you can offer it at the point of departure, create some marketing about how it lets you sleep...

Personally I don't think its all too bad an offering, although it does assume I'll have time to spend at the airport, and of course what about those who can't access the lounge? (but this is is 100% inline with the simple and fair philosophy - if you want something extra, pay the extra price)

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

RedRoo, not trying to be a negative nancy or anything but this is a genuine question.

In the the press release it says:
"The service includes a hosted experience for customers travelling in First, Platinum Frequent Flyers and oneworld Emerald members with exclusive services including shirt pressing, shoe shining and priority access to showers."

Why is this not available in Hong Kong, where Platinums are made to feel like 2nd class citizens? (see my HKG lounge experience recently: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....hkg-new-lounge-open-59117-24.html#post1062844 ) and we can't even get a dining table in the P1 area? or is this hosted experience going to spread to SIN and HKG for Plats?

According to this article, this should already be available to Plats in the Hong Kong Lounge:

"(Hong Kong) Also in common with Singapore: first class passengers, Chairman's Lounge and Platinum One frequent flyers are in line for a few extra perks such as free shirt pressing, shoe shine and priority access to showers."

Must admit, not tried m'self.

The article makes no mention of Platinum, just Platinum One.
