Qantas operated LAX First/oneworld lounges at TBIT

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

RedRoo, not trying to be a negative nancy or anything but this is a genuine question.

In the the press release it says:
"The service includes a hosted experience for customers travelling in First, Platinum Frequent Flyers and oneworld Emerald members with exclusive services including shirt pressing, shoe shining and priority access to showers."

Why is this not available in Hong Kong, where Platinums are made to feel like 2nd class citizens? (see my HKG lounge experience recently: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....hkg-new-lounge-open-59117-24.html#post1062844 ) and we can't even get a dining table in the P1 area? or is this hosted experience going to spread to SIN and HKG for Plats?

I would say that the answer to the question of why it is specific to LAX is because LAX is a joint OW lounge operated by QF whereas the HKG and SIN lounges are QF lounges.

In any event, I am looking forward to experiencing the lounge next Friday! Looks very nice

For those who are in the US often, would I need to tip the bartenders and waiters there? If yes, how much should I be tipping?

Other than "be good to your parents", no tips are required. ;)

Tipping is a personal preference, however not mandatory in the lounge. The service is part of the premium experience.

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Yes, let's not get into the whole tipping thing again.

Having said that ;), I would never begrudge anyone in the USA hospitality industry a tip, especially on their (usually) pathetic wages.

$1+ per drink shouldn't drive a moderate drinker into poverty. A bit more, maybe, on the first round just to get the barman's attention can sometimes set you right for the night. :D

Thanks for clarifying Red Roo. The lounge looks nice and I look forward to experiencing it in a couple of weeks. Keen to learn more details about the FCL in LAX. Let's hope it mirrors SYD/MEL FCLs.

Is the LAX bar service 'Complimentary'? Will need a stiff drink or 10 after paying for my own Chauffeur Drive (with tip) to LAX for a First Class ticket

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Looks great, can't wait to check it out during my upcoming trip in July.

Anyone who's previously travelled SYD-JFK on QF107 - have you been able to squeeze in a lounge visit during the LAX stopover?

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Unlikely I'll get to see the lounge afterall. As typical for US domestic flights. . Running delayed and will make it a very tight connection onto QF12, more than likely no lounge time. . But my Jb upgrade came through. So not all lost.

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

I look forward to checking it out next month.

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

I had five mins in lax. Walked into the new club. Walked immediately out. Was busy, noisy and of course in five mins I want going to get much done.

Looked nice but also felt like walking into a busy pub.

So the staff are not struggling on minimum wage. I tip in the AA lounge and because I am going home are very generous (getting rid of all those quarters) and the staff show their appreciation. The dimes , nickels and pennies I give to the children's fund along with any leftover $1 bills which one collects along with said quarters. The US economy would improve by just getting rid of those damn pennies.

Re: QF/CX/BA open new Los Angeles Business Lounge

Have to say I'm a little surprised with the relatively low key publicity around the LAX lounge opening versus that for the Singapore and Hong Kong lounges. LAX has been open a few days now and still nothing more than a 40s video on the Qantas y'tube site and a few photos on F'book - but that's it. Would have thought they might make a bit more of it, particularly given what looks like a great outcome.

The various QF Twitter feeds had quite a lot of postings / links to info re: the new lounge

Canada has recently gotten rid of 1 cent coins - thank God!

If QF doesn't want to press your shirt and pants in HKG just walk across to The Wing and the CX lounge attendants will be more than happy to take care of your clothes while you're having a glass of champagne in a cabana;)
