Well after a ridiculous amount of domestic travel I'm now eligible for partner gold status. I just got it at the end of the membership year, after the complaining about the amount of travel I do surprising I was encouraged to make those last few flights:o

I got QF to fax me the form to speed up the registration process I was told it would take about 2-3 weeks to get the kit after registration but I could add on about 1-2 weeks to get the nomiation forms in the mail. Anyway I've attached the current form just in case someone else needs it.

Lists benefits:
50% bonus points.
Complimentary Qantas Club membership.
Priority check-in at Qantas Club/Business Class
counters (regardless of the class flown).
Extra baggage allowance on Qantas domestic and
international flights.
Preferred seating.
Australian Domestic On Departure upgrades within
Qantas Club lounges.
Priority telephone reservation service.
Priority baggage.
Priority waitlist/airport standby.

Having listed all that I don't see many bonus as when we travel together lounge access was already available as a WP, maybe the bonus points are good. The biggest advantage (I hope) is getting a better seat allocation and maybe a little more preference that I've read about here. On some flights I've been getting back very far in the plane (aisle perference) mucht be a few CL and WP/PGs these days:!:

I think PG has only two benefits - if your spouse travels without you (mine doesnt) or if you are a breeder and need more guest in the QP.

It will be interesting if your seat allocation changes now that you are PG. I have never reached PG but have always had seat allocation on the front 1/3 of the plane.

There are a few threads here though which do allude to PG's getting "better" treatment than WP's.

Generally a better seat.

Once significant different that is noticeable, especially when travelling internationally is the SG 50% bonus.

Instead of getting, say, 4,596 when travelling WHY MEL-HKG, your partner earns an additional 2,298 to give a total of 6,894!

I am currently Qantas Gold, my wife is platinum and will soon be offered partner gold for me. As I am already gold would Qantas offer anything else to her in lieu of this? Bit of a curly one.

Nope. I do feel Qantas should give an option for an alternative benefit should PG not be of use to you.

And i think one more.... the whole reason some people chase status... it makes them feel special and important

(But really it would help my partner with the 50% bonus points and the lounger access because she travels without me half the time.... thinking the extra luggage could be te most important thing but don;t think i would mention that idea to some woman, they may choose to take advantage of it)

Golden rule, "if you can't carry it yourself, you should not take it" - admittedly, always said with a smile on one's face and a gleam in one's eye ...

It is a shame that there's no benefit for you but if you're already gold, could you allocate it to someone else? (Daughter, parent, friend- maybe as a Christmas present) I'm not sure if this is permitted in the rules but I seem to remember someone mentioned giving it to their father.

I believe you can give it to someone else unofficially, but if you follow the rules to the letter, then Partner is defined as "The spouse or domestic partner who resides at the same address as the Member".

The thing is, women almost invariably come up with the way of carrying them somehow!:lol:

Personally I think it's a pretty nice benefit. I'll be making PG within a week, and plan on giving it to my parents. Unlike my girlfriend, they never travel with me, and being infrequent travellers, the closest they usually get to a lounge is hearing my stories.

It'll be nice to give them their own lounge access (and business class check-in etc...) for a year. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.
