QANTAS Partner Gold

I'd appreciate others' experiences with giving partner gold to someone other than your spouse or domestic partner. I'd like to give mine to my Mother which I know is against the rules, strictly speaking, of the offer. Has anyone had success in signing up someone else, either by declaring them as a spouse or by not declaring their relationship to you?

I tried to sign my dad up for PG (he had an existing QFF account @ the same address). Received a call about a week later saying "We understand this is your father and as such he's not eligible for PG. Is there someone else you'd like to give it to?"

Ended up giving it to my (then) girlfriend by changing the address on her profile to mine (we didn't live together), which worked fine.

Annoying, but I can see why QF insist it must be a domestic partner or spouse (because most of the time, they'd be travelling with you, so the privileges would barely get used!)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Hi,
What i actually meant was the givers level, not the receivers level. But that also would make sense to drop back to silver for the receiver.
Not sure why i care since i don't really have anybody who i could give PG to that would benifit if i was to earn enough SC (Maybe next year with the remainder of my AONE5 flights)

Hey this is why they do it :) makes people feel like they are getting something big... but it does not cost all that much to give since they would have those people most of the time in lounges anyway. Its called good marketing.

Of course some people even if the number is not that high would actually use it.

Having said all of that a few people have commented that they believe that 'Partner Gold' level gave them better treatment than 'Platinum.'

Febs, any idea how they knew he was your Father? Do you think their call had anything to do with the fact that it was a male-named person giving it to another male-named person (making absolutely no suggestions whatsoever about this type of domestic relationship, btw)? I (a bloke) would like to give it to my Mother. About two months ago I changed my address so it is the same as hers (both her and my Father are QF NB) in preparation for the forthcoming partner gold.

I would suggest QF would have known it was his father by one of two ways:

a) If a family transfer of points had been done it may be recorded as I think it asks for the relationship of the 'giver' and receiver of the points, or

b) by comparing DOB from your profile. (ie probably 25 yrs + difference I'd imagine).

Yeah, exactly my point. It's a smart move on QF's part. :)

Male and age I guess. No way they could have known for sure, but I wasn't about to take it further. :)

Then why not allow people to nominate whoever they want? Limiting it to 'partners' just highlights to the single people you can't get a partner despite your advancing age...

Me insecure? Never! :)

BTW, as a WP, I'd like to give my father access to a lounge when he travels. He rarely does (so making a QC membership not worthwhile), but whenever he does travel, he often faces a transit of 8 hours. Since I don't travel with him, I can't get him into a lounge. However, if I was a silver, I think I get a pass to visit a lounge, then I can give that pass to my father.

Maybe I should just go for silver and divert my travel to other airlines so I can get that pass...?

anyone had experience with changing their nominated person, due to seperation/divorce/death etc.? If the original partner wasn't a QFF, and thus got free QFF with the partner gold, would a subsequent partner get the same benefit?

I haven't changed a nominated person, but I've written to them telling them that person is no longer my partner. QF will write back and confirm to you that linkage between your account is now broken.

I can't quite recall, but I think the ex-partner did join for free originally.
