Qantas Platinum One experiences?

@RichardMEL - I got that invitation too. And am not flying anywhere, so have accepted!

PS: Just requalified for P1, with two months to go before anniversary date. I wish I could roll the September and October flying over to the next membership year. Alas not; sigh.

I enjoyed the event last night. Decent enough sparkling and good nibbles. Great to watch the dancers in action and David McA did some critique along the way. There was time for questions and answers from the dancers. I ran into someone I knew and had a good chat so all went well.

Hello - been browsing this for a while but joined today. Have seen a few members asking "how many P1s are there" in other threads- I was speaking to a P1 team member last week and asked the same question and she said: "we never tell this to our members but its about 0.02 of the total QF membership base" - which I guess is approaching 10m - so as of last week, just a bit under 2000 nationally.

When P1 launched I recall them saying it was about 2000, with 7000 in CL. Now that it's much harder to status run with JASA's to the top, I'm not quite sure why the CL isn't a benefit for what is essentially a group of flyers even smaller than the top 1%!

PO has a different meaning to me, so I always use P1. Or at least I used to as I have dropped back to a humble WP. Several flights since dropping back and not noticed any difference. If anything I've had more empty seats next to me - including in J. Just random luck I'm sure. Hard to differentiate between the usual excellent J service and any special P1 treatment anyway.

I have always thought there are more P1s than CLs, although perhaps it is just a case of seeing P1s in the wild more often given they are more likely to be travelling perhaps.

In any case, I can see why QF would want to keep the CLs private. I don't know any pop celebrities, but I know a number of high ranking company executives who are always loathed to be bowled up by some shareholder when travelling. Of course, as public figures they have to be polite, and usually are very polite, but I can see why that would be annoying.

Speaking of which, I have enough frustration running into people I know when I am half asleep on those pesky OMG-o-clock services. I am sure I look horrible at that hour.

I had a great P1 experience in DXB last night. Queues in connection were pretty bad. Was greeted by F host as I stepped off the A380 and escorted straight through connection security to F lounge. Very nice touch indeed.

Where you flying F and on whose metal?

That's true, I just stated it in light of the news I heard that during the wild weather event recently, P1's were sent to the CL in SYD due to the other two lounges being over-full. If you can send them there in those circumstances, why not in others... there's less of them after all.

Anyway, sorry for going off topic!

The few times I have been into a CL in SYD and CBR they've been pretty empty. Colleague CLs confirm it is often (but not always) that way. I guess that's part of the amenity though - the feeling of space and exclusivity. Most CLs I know rock up just in time for a flight. Use the CL more on arrival, or of course when there are delays. Partners of CLs tend to use the lounge a bit more.

I think a set number of passes to the CL for a P1 in a membership year would make a lot of sense. A concrete benefit that would be of value if the J lounge wasn't very comfortable or is full (going to be more of an issue I reckon given number of WPs is growing) or you have a long transit.

I also think this would be a good benefit.
I'd also like to see pre-booking for Spa appointments on the day of travel and possibly some extra guest benefits to QF Lounges as CL do.

Agree with the spa bookings. I was in SYD F lounge about 10 days ago, arrived early afternoon ahead of a 5pm flight. QF 7 to DFW was delayed so the mid afternoon spa times were all taken. On the one hand I have no problem with those about to undertake a 16 hour flight getting a spa treatment over my 3 hour journey to WLG! but being able to reserve a time as a P1 would have been great. Though I should note my status should have reverted to WP but for the first few days in October I still showed up as P1.

P1's were also sent to the CL in MEL during Sunday's crazy wind affected weather delays/chaos.

I thought that was a smart move by QF Ground. I would count it as part of the "Platinum One experience" for sure.

and we know why the code is PO - because QF love to tell P1's to PO? (kidding)

(incidently on AY boarding passes status also shows as FFPO so these things do sit in the systems, just various partners will/will not recognise them as they decide)

Smart move indeed and hopefully QF will do the same if/when closing down Dom J lounges during Xmas instead of sending P1s to QP.
