Qantas Platinum One experiences?

John, I would agree that it is underwhelming, and more of a nice-to-have than something you would want to specifically target. It is very good for getting award flights - I just sent an email with the itinerary I wanted for some family members and at very short notice during peak season, they came through. But thats not really a reason to specifically want p1. As far as I can tell they don't actually "proactively" monitor your travel (or if they do it's hard to tell) and no real perks over and above plat but they sometimes acknowledge you on the plane (I've had a couple of CSMs give me their business cards and introduce me to crew members as one of QFs most frequent flyers...). I think the perks will be in the requests made to the special team but I'm just not the type of person to call up asking for extra perks.

I've always been able to have award seats released as just a lowly WP. Is this now a special WP1 benefit?

Draw whatever conclusion as you will... However, I'll state:

- Getting award seats released has always been an unpublished benefit, so it can be tightened or even withdrawn without notice
- From reading various threads and personal experience, there seems to be a tightening of said benefit. (No doubt someone will say they just got a bunch recently.)
- QFF has repeatedly said WP benefits will not be diminished due to P1.

Not every P1 hits the SC's by exclusively flying J and F. Some of us do the hard yards in Y as well. I am lucky in that international is in J/F anyway - I don't need extra love on these flights.. It's the 30+ BNE Perth returns in Y that I do that could do with a bit of upgrade attention.

And that is not likely to happen at QF either. Not saying that we need to have op-ups thrown around left right and centre but for someone like me to have a 4% op-up success ratio on70 flights is extremely poor. And I know there are others with worse success ratios.

OT Sorry...

Never had an op-up (or points lottery for that matter) on QF, last op-up was almost 3 years ago on BA...

I got to P1 by the time of my Year end at 31 October last year. I have had two free upgrades since then, one from Syd to Per Y to Business and this week from LHR to SIN business to First. I have also had all my requests for upgrades with my own points accepted. So from that point of view I think P1 has been great.

The P1 team has responded to all of my emails very quickly and assisted with virtually any query I have put to them. They will email or phone you if your query is urgent.

I'm not really sure if flyers should expect OP-UPs as a matter of routine. If you book an economy flight and don't try and upgrade with points then why should you get an automatic upgrade even if you are P1?

For CL members it is obviously and apparently different regarding upgrades and other matters. But I do think we have to remember that they are CL members for other reasons than the amount they fly.

Umm, Business cards?!? Why?

What's their contact details? 'On a flight somewhere'....

QF will not op-up a WP (and looks like WP1 also) unless they need the space in Y.

There were in Dec & Jan as a marketing initiative/damage control for what happened late October. These upgrades would happen even when whY had plenty of seats available.

QF differentiate CL who are there for 'other reasons' eg CEO of a company that doesn't do a lot of flying or doesn't do in excess of 2700 SC per year with the code CLQF vs the CL who exceeds 2700 SC per year & has the code CLPO.

Don't you mean 3600 SC?

Must say I am very happy with P1 service to date, since being given P1 in November have had 7 upgrades.

6 x Y to J on SYD-MEL
1 x J to F on SIN-SYD

Prior to that i would have been lucky to have had 2 or 3 in the last 2 years.

Service of the dedicated P1 team has been great in helpin fix a few tricky problems for me.

Couple of nice bottles of red with the free Epiqure membership, no issues sneaking in exra kids into First lounge at SYD international.

Don't know why people are underwhelmed, I am very greatful, great service Qantas!!!

Wow, that is great.

Maybe it's QF's inconsistency that is the issue??? Looks like some are getting very good op-ups, while some are getting none

Any idea how QF treat these two different types of CL in practice? i.e. what benefits a CLPO gets that a CLQF doesn't, or vice versa?

I'm never, ever going to be either, but I'm curious :-)

I'd be interested to know if your experience continues. As a WP I had 7 flights upgraded Y to J in Dec between Mel-Syd-Bne but I understand that was part of the sorry program, rather than them being nicer. An update after the first few months of this year, particularly on your domestic experience, would be much appreciated.

I have never had a upgrade as a WP or anything.

I am flying to SIN next month so hope i get something on those flights.

I got a few upgrades on Ansett.

I've got 16 Dom flights (most in (flex-saver) Y) until 29 Feb- will keep a tally as to P1 experiences. Recent trans-tasman in Y provided nothing special. In fact seating was stuffed up on way to ZQN and Mr Esquire (WP) & I were in a full row with other empty seats in front.... but it was a public holiday and these things can happen.

The few times I have called P1 - service has been great. Example - a recent arbitration was going to run way over scheduled finish time - didn't know end time yet and unable to change flights online - advised simply call back when in taxi to airport and they'll get me to the next flight even though it was a few hours after the original booking. Made a very stressful day that much easier.
