Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I probably did not need to block out the age, I just tend to cover any details when posting on social forums as she is not yet a teenager.

As for the flight, yes she enjoyed it but she also thinks J is normal. She will be in for a rude shock when she starts travelling with friends and has to fund travel herself. ;)
An excellent example of an intangible benefit. As La Mouette commented earlier, it's hard to put a value on the little things, but they can make a big difference. For the same reason, I buy my meat from a small butcher. Costs more than Woolworths but if it's ever tough, there's someone to talk to (BTW, it's NEVER tough!). P1 appears to be Qantas doing their best to bring a small business feel to an industry that's anything but.

I always enjoy this thread.....it served as a reminder today that I need to pick my 9000 TP benefit, now what will I go for, a joker, a gold upgrade for 2, 2 gold upgrades for one or 50,000 Avios. Decisions decisions!!! :p:p
I guess there is an example of the difference between documented specific upgrade benefits of GGL and the intangible of what might happen with QF and WP1 when it suits QF.

With that, Qantas have different (less effective) competition with such and do not perceive the need.

It would be interesting if Velocity intoduced a useful equivalent of the BA Joker.

Competition is what it is all about. There is no incentive for QF to provide tangible P1 benefits, I am not unique but I suspect here are not many people in Australia with similar travel patterns that can milk the BA status rewards and the hidden city Ex EU fares.

I highly doubt QF see Virgin as any threat what so ever to the P1 product.

SQ is the largest intl pax carrier out of Australia. If SQ were to improve PPS, perhaps QR/EY get their act together with a decent loyalty proposition for Australians, only then we'd see P1 move in a positive direction.

Keep in mind that P1 is there as a revenue protection mechanism, which means the headline metric QF will look at to decide if the program needs improving - is a mixture of:

- QF tickets purchased by P1/potential P1 members (revenue uplift/spend up into P1)
- Lifetime value of any member who hits P1

Which means the only way to show P1 NOT working, is for P1 members to stop flying Qantas.

Maybe not just a once off, the chap on the other side of the aisle also received the same. No personal note or flight details however this was domestic flight, still a nice touch.

I received my first of these this week. A couple of pieces of trivia:

I overheard the CSM tell another P1 thst we're supposed to receive these monthly. Cue the complaints now when we don't receive them monthly, and when we do receive them, that they're only being given out to a schedule!

The photo is 1/7. Before anyone speculates this has something to do with secret levels, I'd propose that it means there are 7 cards to collect ... ;)

Or stop crediting to QFF?

If you're flying on QR, MH, or any deep discount economy class ticket on a Oneworld member airline - you're going to earn more points/miles by crediting to a different program other than QFF. BA, CX, AA, MH....... all have their sweet spots for massively valuable award tickets.

Else - depending on flying and fare classes, BA, AY or AA could be way more beneficial for status earning than QF.

On checking in this evening I was saving the boarding pass to apple wallet when I noticed seat was in D. I thought that cannot be right as I usually sit in 4C so went to change seats to look for 4C. It was then I realised it was 1D, thanks SST.

Dom upgrades seem to come through a little more frequently than 1-2 years back, however this is also the 23rd flight I have taken in the past 8 weeks. I was planning to cut back travel this year, not off to a good start. :(

LHR to SYD arr yesterday, Saturday, 6am, a day early for personal reasons. Flight was changed to a day earlier by call direct to Q (not TA). P1 travelling F. Luggage usual delay (45 mins at turnstile), first time in YEARS actually approached by First Host (yes apparently they still exist) acknowledging the delay and asking for my luggage receipt. Comes back 5 minutes later as my luggage finally emerges, explains "We don't know why this happens to our First customers, we can't do anything about it no matter what we try", then leaves - better than nothing I think - at least I was acknowledged. Join now enormous queue to exit. I watch from queue as celebrity F traveller finally picks up his luggage, then the F Host escorts him through a very immediate special exit. Nice! Lucky for him. Doubt he is P1.... Exit to find my CD not present. Call P1 who tell me to catch a taxi as there is nothing in the booking for a chauffeur, which I pointlessly challenge. Get a call this morning from the booked Chauffeur wondering where I am?! Thanks P1 for monitoring my travels so closely and coordinating things so well! Most impressive. "Just because you cannot see us looking after you, doesn't mean to say we aren't constantly monitoring your travels to make sure everything goes smoothly" a P1 staffer told me once..... Ha!

The CD I can understand. If you change within about a week you need to call to rebook the Chauffeur drive by calling qantas. I’ve had the confirm your pickup time calls for a flight I cancelled 4 months prior.

Also regarding customs, was there no express lane? If so that’s on Sydney airport/ border force than on Qantas. I’ve found it to be hit and miss a few times in MEL (that is unless they forgot the express cards, then it’s 100% on qantas).

Those F hosts are meant to meet the top tier frequent flyer on the flight/ top VIP, and I can say that these are also meant to happen on the QF9/10 in Perth too (escort them through to the lounge), yet for that route particularly means they don’t explain the benefits for a P1 in Perth (such as proper French Champagne, and the chairman’s/ first host is meant to make sure that you are okay as well)

TBH, I think there are P1 and there are P1.

Much like prior to the introduction of P1, anecdotally there appeared to be some types of über WP.

Agree. I've been P1 for 4-5 years now, probably towards the bottom of the bell shaped curve. A good friend of mine has been P1 for 2-3 years but in comparison spends much more than me. When we were discussing our P1 experiences/perks/invitations over the years she's definitely been treated differently compared to me. I thought it was a Melbourne (me) /Sydney (her) thing with more events in Sydney due to possibly more P1s or that the Qantas base is in Sydney but it is very clear we are being treated differently. I've nothing to complain though, it makes sense that companies look after their higher valued customers.

Kind of reminds me of the BA CIV (Commerical Importance Value) score system, your CIV score is dynamic according to your status and monthly spend with BA. GGL earns an automatic CIV of 96 where are Gold was rumoured to sit anywhere between 70+.

On the bright side for the P1 Xmas pressies we both got champagne and one didn't get the noise cancelling head phones :) ha ha

No BNE dinner invite for me (dont live in BNE though).
Flew QF J internationally recently (within the last week) as well Q domestic in J and economy within the last month and didn't get the thank you cards either.

Did you have success as P1 getting award seats released (on similar routes) where the requests were being declined as WP?

I don't know I have much with which to do the comparison. As a WP, I had requests to release 2 J award seats refused. As a P1, I've only one request refused (out of maybe 4 or 5) and that was for a F award on the last day of the September school holidays. Since becoming P1 I've only been travelling in F on QF on the (ex MEL) Kangaroo route and transpac; combination of award and rev.

Trying to work out what to do with the plat gift... wife already plat, kids are gold and are looking 99% confirmed to hit plat under their own steam.
