Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Hello... long time lurker and first time poster!

I've recently made P1 for the first time, thanks to DSC promotions. I wondered if it was possible for me to still qualify for the Platinum Bonus Reward (50,000 points or gold membership for family/friend etc.) if I meet that qualifying criteria, which is to get 2400 SC from eligible Qantas or Jetstar flights?

I thought yes based on reading previous posts. But I'm not so sure after noticing that the part on the Status Credits webpage that tracked progress for the Platinum Bonus Reward, beneath the 'Loyalty Bonus' section no longer appears for me.

I am 35 SC short for the 2400 SC required from eligible Qantas or Jetstar flights. Considering whether it is worth doing a status run...

Thanks

@kelea, welcome to to the P1 thread. I do not mean to sound blunt but cannot/ will not answer your question. If I read your post correctly, the first post you make is in the P1 thread asking what a 'long time lurker' could work out for him/herself out just do a status run for 35 points and please report back the findings.

BTW I am not normally this blunt however you are the first AFFer who has made their first post, as far as I am aware, in this thread asking about QF FF program questions.

That's a bit harsh. If you don't want to answer, just don't answer. No need for this IMHO.

Yes you can.

I was fully aware and expecting backlash when I responded. It was only earlier this week that I caught up with other AFFers, one being a moderator and the topic of trolling, following, social engineering questions from new members etc. came up.

A few days later a question like this, a basic QF FF program question that most QF SG, or WP would most likely the answer but for a 'long time lurker' not to know makes me question their motives for posting their first post in this thread.

Thank you JRR.

@Matt_01 No offense taken, although confused why a gold or platinum member would know the answer? Surprised anyone would know this unless they've seen or heard about it, or maybe I've missed something? I'm personally not keen on unnecessarily spending any time or money to get the SC, without being certain I will get the bonus.

DSC do make P1 qualification a bit of a joke tbh. I mean I will requalify P1 and have just under 2000 QF/JQ "real"(bum in seat) SC) at the time (plus a bunch of OW flights which obviously do not qualify).

I await the next enhancement where the 2700 SC will not include DSC - it's only logical.

It seems ridiculous to me that on the one hand QF sets a hard limit on P1 qualification, won't comp etc yet DSC makes it a lot easier to get there.

And before people get upset that I'm giving "them" ideas... I'm not. Anyone who thinks QFF is unaware is kidding themselves ... plus I pointed this out quite some time ago.

Anyway back to the thing about the PBR and if to go for it or not.. here's the thing, as P1 you can gift Platinum.. so unless you have a desire for another 50k points or to gift Gold to someone(in addition to the Plat), is it really that valuable? One for each individual to evaluate for themselves.

The question is whether DSC makes P1 qualification a bit of a joke, or whether it brings some perspective to it. Looked at rationally, are the P1 perks worth three times the flying required to retain WP? The answer to this question is entirely subjective. If you are genuinely doing serious flying, P1 makes it more pleasant. If your serious flying is domestic and not paid for by the taxpayer, DSC's make P1 possible. 3600 Sc's at 10 SC's, or even 20 SC's, a flight is a tough target.

I received today an invitation to a Platinum One customer workshop at the Qantas Centre of Service Excellence to discuss ideas on “how we design and deliver our platinum one services”

Of course I’m overseas when it’s on ... boo

How about a written submission instead? I'm sure we could all help you out. :)

Assuming no-one else has received the invitation I’d be happy to send a written submission in if the group wants to participate with suggestions. It’s a fairly well worn path in this thread. The workshop is on the 17th of April.

Great.
Could I start the list with through-checking of bags - or rather no through-checking of bags (in the circumstances we all know), necessitating obtaining a visa to exit and reclaim, then re-do Security, Immigration, check-in etc. :(
(Of course, the response will be an immediate change! I live in hope! :))

In general I agree. QF has "marketed" P1 as this exclusive tier with all the goodies. We, the road warriors (of one sort of another) know that P1 only seriously comeds into its own during irrops, which is something none of us want on a regular basis :) All the rest like the odd comp upgrade, or invite to an event you can't attend, or whatever are a bit secondary. Upgrades clearing with the best priority and the extra access to award inventory over WP is absolutely fantastic but again, if one is not in a position to use them for one reason or another than the benefit/value is less.

I guess what I meant by "bit of a joke" was that it essentially devalues the level. I don't know if BA do such things and if they effect or contribute to GGL(TonyHancock??) but as I see it, QF set a high bar for the program and yet with multiplt DSC offerrs a year it makes it much easier.

And yes, I have attained P1 with ZERO bonus SC offers, so I have done it the hard way in the past so I can claim to have been a full legit P1 in the past but this year definitely DSC aided.

This is why I think, if they continue these promos, they will either:

a) make DSC (or bonus SCs earned from promos) not count towards P1
or
b) 2700 QF/JQ SC earn to not include bonus SC's

Now they already made Loyalty Bonus SC's not count towards P1, but also bonus SC's not count towards "bonus reward" levels like 2400 PBR, or 5000+ P1BR levels so I could see either o the above occuring.

I enjoy P1 no question, but it's not as exclusive as it was. I wonder if the ranks of P1s have surged in the past year or two from the alleged 3k-5k members there were in the first few years of the program. I'd love to know.

I wonder about this too. Obviously we're discussing a tiny percentage of the FF base but I'm sure the Bean Counter department has forecasted how many will NOT go for P1 if those (a) or (b) or other options are enacted. If, and when, the rules tighten then benefits should (must?) be added. Perhaps this is what the upcoming group focus meeting is about?

IMHO I'm surprised the 2700 still allows DSC. I don't know how the P1 team copes with the extra members, Heaven knows I've been known to send emails about inane rubbish and they probably spend 50% of their time replying to me lol.

I haven't seen any double TP offers from BA, but they may be targeted if the do make them. I remember in my four years as a P1 I never received a double status credit offer.

BAEC is good when it comes to defined benefits and this is a very good offset to the less well defined benefits which appear to be bestowed upon those they wish to lure into the madness of the frequent flyer form of Stockholm Syndrome. I'm looking to break free next year...but I have said that before and am now hooked into obtaining BA LTG!!! (There are some subtle changes happening in the background that will be the perfect treatment for my particular form of BA Stockholm Syndrome...well that and finally reaching LTG! A little viewed newish thread, posted by a travel agent, over on FT highlights a now closed loophole. :( ) Oh well maybe SQ PPS is the way to go?
