Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Currently flying around South America on LATAM and have observed their host services at the gate for their Black Signature customers (eqv P1) which is impressive.

A host is always at the gate when Black Signauture PAX are flying and uses their phone to find each customer (they have profile picture!) and then chats to each customer at the gate, offers a drink while waiting, ensures they board first with special assistance customers and then boards the flight ensuring they get their seat and cabin bags stored.

Qantas? ;)

.... has no real competition in the niche area and little incentive.

anyway paging Senor Juddles to the Black courtesy phone

P1 since June, got 2 business upgrades on 4 domestic flights, and shadow on row 4 on the other two, dinner and private tour at the NGV, and just last week got to fly first class for the first time ever, on LAX-MEL A380 seat 1A, thanks to a free upgrade when I got into the lounge in LAX. That was nice, I have to say, felt like a kid in a candy store :) The flight was not full at all in Y or J, so I got lucky I guess.

I have to say P1 does seem to be all it's cracked up to be, at least for me so far :)

I know I may have been lucky and may not get anything else for the rest of the year, but hey, that's been good already :)

One of the most impressive things that i recall about Latam's top level was the package they send you when you obtain it - the welcome gift used to be a big map-of-the-world board thing with coloured pins etc so you could mount it on your wall to show your wondrous travels. The thing was about a metre wide, and of course all dressed up in fancy black packaging, etc. Very impressive thing to get delivered :) My brother also got a nice suit carrier - but I think that was for reaching his first million miles with them.

But I have no status with them anymore (Maybe still have basic black, but even that should drop off soon as these days the only Latam I fly is domestic within Chile using FF points)

P1 could certainly learn a bit from Latam about making top tier customers feel special.

Juddles - I'm so sorry! I thought you'd dropped QF for LA tbh!! At least I knew you had experince with the blacck :)

kitkatff - you seem to be leading a charmed P1 life! Long may it ocntinue (were you in paid J on the LAX-MEL before the op up?)

I'd wonder if you're a higher value spender with QFF (or your comapny is if employer related travel) - following the notion that there may well be different "classes" of P1 in terms of treatment.

Anyway enjoy it! Certainly different to many of the experiences had by we longer term P1's. (that's not intended to sound jealous btw.. more an observation)

Thanks RichardMEL. I was in paid J, yes, employer-related travel.

Only been plat for 2-3 years, then P1 since May (my year starts 1 June, got P1 3 days before end of May), so compared to some here like yourself, I'm just a baby P1.
I could see some obvious travel progression from the QF point of view: I was silver/gold for 3-4 years, then something like 1,600 SC WP, 2,000 SC WP, then 3,000 SC WP, then 4,100 SC P1 (with some flights on CX/Finnair on QF routes, so a bit of flying with less SC earn). So I may look like an "up and coming" type of customer?

I'm fully aware benefits may stop at any moment. I was just ecstatic to fly first class for the first time ever. Next step would be getting a first class reward on EK, for the shower :)

Also got to LTG in July thanks to the last 3 years.

kitkatff - all great and it's kinda sweet to see how happy you are (and not jaded like some of us lol). Enjhoy it - if you have to fly a lot for work and stuff then at least QF is treating you nicely. Great to see.

Just regarding F seats on EK - unfotunately P1 status will mean little in terms of getting those - as in there's nothing extra and above that QF can do with them to get a seat released (unlike P1 priority access for QF rewards). Having said that, I see F seats on man routes when I look - they are not hard to get.. and having done the long haul F with shower and bar and all that in the 380 over the top experience I can guarantee how happy you will be when you make that happen. It's something totally different to what QF gives - over the top as I say but so wonderful. That shower is a lot of fun. It's great to have goals and enjoy them and I have a feeling you'll make that EK dream come true sooner than you think and I have a real feeling you'll be delighted!!!

Best wishes and welcome to the P1 "club" - thanks for reminding me that there can still be delights out there to be had!

I just would like to report something but cannot. I know I will still retain P1 until Aug 21 but a lot more of my flying is going to SQ and VA (only to send the points to SQ).

Has anyone ever asked/had any luck asking the SST to move them from a DOM-INT itinerary to a direct INT flight on day of travel?

Had to make a last minute change to an award booking, but Yield Management would only release an indirect routing. Was thinking of calling SST on the morning of travel to see if I could nab any available seats on the direct flight.

I had one trip where they booked the indirect route LHR-MEL-SYD and waitlisted LHR-SYD. When LHR-SYD became available, they swapped me over. If I remember correctly, the waitlist came through during the gold/platinum upgrade window. So I'd recommend trying before the day of the flight.

Thanks for the advice. I just shot an email to SST to see if there is any way they can keep me waitlisted on my preferred, direct flight. Have to ask the question!

yes it was. I am also a simple person :)

Helped along by DSC's, my rollover starts in Aug, when the Feb DSC offer came along we booked trip for a few days in CNS, and x4 domestic flights for my regular commute just to kickstart the year. Over the the next few months things changed and by the time Aug arrived I needed to head up to Asia twice and NZ twice. Rather than just purchase new tickets I repurposed the DSC's.

Then there are the flights taken in Sep and forward bookings, 1 int and 3 dom so if my calculations are correct sometime within the next ten months I need 70 more SC to hit the magic number and retain P1 through to Aug 21. Simples

With 10 months until my QF renewal and as I posted elsewhere there is little incentive for me to book with QF and why I can look to SQ and VA.
