To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Are you sure these count towards the 2700? I thought it just counts towards the rest.

I'm not saying they count, I'm saying if an aspiring P1 needs to fly 2700 SC on QF metal as part of the P1 qualification criteria, they'd be able to pick up five loyalty bonuses along the way for 250 SC towards the 3600 SC target.

Maybe the real aim is to ensure that it's not too easy to hit LTP... 😜

Retaining exclusivity would undoubtedly be an attractive and strategic selling point. I recall Scott Kirby, the CEO of United, saying, “If everyone has status, then no one has status”

I would love to know how many Hilton Diamonds are accommodated in any one night compared with IHG Royal Ambassadors.

Considering P1s need 2700 SC on QF it's a 250-300 SC difference.

Not a huge number for most P1s I imagine, but it's still one more international J trip for those close to the attain/retain target.

Maybe there are a glut of P1s just hitting the 3600 mark (and potentially shifting some flying to other alliances) and QF is trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of them?

Loyalty Bonus SC's are showing as counting towards the 2700 QF flight minimum this year. I expect next year SC's will not count for any category to retain/attain P1, but will count towards life time status.

I always saw this as a Covid measure/incentive that they were going to wind back at some time.

Next cab off the rank? DSCs won’t count towards P1…

I suspect they don’t value the P1 scheme and so would happily let it die.

DSC not adding to P1 would definitely thin the herd, but I then suspect be a revenue hit. As we're going into a downturn, probably not ideal.

Plus, they'd want to really beef up P1 if they did that imo. We know they won't do that though.

Interestingly these new tags have nowhere to put your name etc. so qf have clearly realised that people are just using these to identify their status and made them accordingly.

Do the P1 tags not have a metal surface inside the leather strap to write some details?

The WP tags do:

Ah. I actually haven’t opened it up to be honest. Will look later today when back home. Though seems rather hidden there. You’d have to effectively open the tag to see the name

Edit: can confirm same at WP tag image. I still stand behind my comment that it’s tucked away and you’d need to open it to see the name
