Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Are you really insane enough to burn so many points to get the red text on a card and questionably minimal extra benefits?:)

Well in fact it will soon be a shiny new white card rather than a platinum card with Platinum One on it - just putting it out there...

I need 1,300 status credits before March 31st to make P1 :(

Do what most do......organise a few trips for - unnecessary meetings, non-existent factory tours, boring & totally unrelated trade shows & conferences......all of which are located on the other side of the world. :D

....with horrible flight availability meaning you HAVE to use three connections travelling across continents to get to the next city 200 miles away

I have been a P1 since last October (2012) and have received nothing - have been Platinum for four consecutive years - no upgrades that I have not paid or with points. The whole thing is quite uderwhelming. Tried to upgrade from Business to First from LHR to SYD on QF2 - 1 months notice - not even contacted to say NO despite the blurb that says P1 would be advised up to 5 days prior to departure. So as far as I am concerned by 2012 4160 SP's is one Platinum Card with some red writing on it. My anniversary date is 30/11 and I have 1700 Status Points since then with 1250 being on QF - Have just booked 2 RTW's for June, Business Class. have asked for and been refused Rows 11.12 or 13 - flight too booked at the moment. Perhaps they are all taken with P1's. Anyway, we just keep flying. Have to make an urgent trip to Singapore next Sunday (3/2) and back same day - normally I would have flown QF1 or QF5 stayed the night and come back the next day - but so disappointed on my P1 experience I am going up on the early SIngapore flight and back the same evening. P1 qualification is not easy to get and you have to be committed to the ONE WORLD group and be a QANTAS groupie to get your 2700 - I am beginning to think the P1 has little value.

That's really not good and I am surprised to hear about your experiences because mine have all been good since becoming P1.

No P1 specific love for me recently. Got 2 days at the F1 last year, but nothing so far for this P1 year. Still hoping, though.

The ability to select any seat in the cabin + the ability to get extra award seats if needed are really the only two tangible benefits that I've used this year [even though I actually gave back the extra award seat when a JASA appeared later on the same flight].

I have become circumspect about status - since we mostly pay to sit in J (with occasional JASAs) - there's not a lot extra to be had from being P1. To be honest, so long as I get what I pay for anyway (J seating, decent onboard food, priority boarding, priority luggage, decent lounge access), what's the big deal?

The friend I went with to the F1 Grand Prix last year put it well - "you might as well just have bought tickets to the Paddock Club instead of paying so much to fly so you could get 'free' tickets".

After an original grumpy post about P1 I have to say I have been very pleased with their assistance over the past couple of weeks. Their responses have been timely and very helpful. They also got a redemption seat for me on the last QF flight out of FRA in J which will be a unique experience.

Two thumbs up to the P1 team!

Not au fait with many of the acronyms used in this discussion but getting the distinct impression that a lot of QFF people have a fairly 'random' approach to their travel plans...or maybe I'm just dreadfully unimaginative. Been a platinum QFFer forever and use points only for upgrades. Longhaul, buy J ticket and apply for points upgrade to F and most times it happens. Shorter trips buy Y and apply for points upgrade to J, which sometimes happens. Using this approach, I seem to always maintain a couple of million points in the 'bank' and generally get a slightly comfier seat. This approach eliminates the possibility of what I gather you call an 'op-up', but as I say that does seem a weirdly random thing to hang out for...

Time to try AAnother AAirline's program? :)

With that kind of flying, EXP should be ok..

I've avoided this thread, not wanting to experience P1 envy.

Having now had a squiz, I think I made the right decision 2 years ago to diversify my 'loyalty' and get top tier on Air Canada /* Alliance, and maintaining WP, rather than shoot for P1.

I'd love to be P1, but being completely free to choose an airline in either 1W or *A (or both in the same trip) and receive almost all the benefits worth having, I think compensates well.

I'm racking up Air Canada points as well as maintaining P1. Do you have to fly AC or just *A to get elite level (I'm prestige 35k after 2 J returns from Sydney)?

Quick diversion OT, not to change what is an interesting thread. You can fly any *A, but the earning rate is less (just like QFF on other 1W metal). They say you can join Agean's FF program and get *Gold status VERY quickly! And * Gold is applicable across the network. AC 35K is now 'Elite' rather than 'Prestige' but not really worth much, as AC are obviously trying to squeeze that level of flyers out of the main benefit stream. :(

Back to the thread ...

Was just reading through this thread out of interest (my jobs' lack of flying and holidays means I'll never become a P1) and to those that got invites to the Melbourne F1 black tie event, I'm very jealous! As a huge F1 fan, hope you enjoy it!

Some of the other benefits seem nice, too :p

You could buy tickets through Qantas for much less than it'll cost you to get to P1 ;)

This is by far the very best benefit I have received from my years of loyalty to Qantas. No status runs or flights on other One World partners for me. I have earned everything with BIS travel with Qantas.

I truly believe they do reward their frequent flyers.
