Qantas Platinum One experiences?

This is by far the very best benefit I have received from my years of loyalty to Qantas. No status runs or flights on other One World partners for me. I have earned everything with BIS travel with Qantas.

I truly believe they do reward their frequent flyers.

Do you mean coolumbla?? :-P

+1 has never been the the F1 Grand Prix or New Zealand so I think I'd be in trouble if I didn't have him along. ;)

I will say. I think the First Class Lounge in Sydney will be a great place to be prior to QF1 on Easter Sunday. I'm expecting a real party atmosphere.

Nah, he's super busy ;)
One of these days I'll catch up with you in LHR ( or the upstairs lounge with the Taittinger De Comtes :D)
Enjoy DXB !

In all fairness, this is hardly a P1 benefit, it's just plain awesome for being the top percentile of paying pax.

Great stuff BR really looking forward to your Trip Report. Incidentally I'll be curious to see if you get your favourite seat ;)

Also wondering who will be in the flight deck and who the lucky CSM will be on the flight. - talk about pressure from the boss. ;)

I would have thought, all safety aside, that you wouldn't have both CEO's travel together?

Granted, they're not leaders of Australia and the Emirates, but I just wouldn't have expected it.

That will be a great trip! Very jealous ... and I actually have Easter free! LOL

I think if BR was invited to sit in J then it might have been one of the last offers that QF would have had the opportunity to make to him...

In all fairness, this is hardly a P1 benefit, it's just plain awesome for being the top percentile of paying pax.
More like a P1 benefit with CL overtones ;)

Incidentally I'll be curious to see if you get your favourite seat ;)

If they know what's good for them 1A or 1K will be BR's. :D

Also wondering who will be in the flight deck and who the lucky CSM will be on the flight. - talk about pressure from the boss. ;)
Pressure from all 3 bosses :D.

No mention of what class you're sitting in the email, what if they've seated you in Y? ;) :o
I think if BR was invited to sit in J then it might have been one of the last offers that QF would have had the opportunity to make to him...
Quite easy, an offer of J or Y would be turned down. IIRC, bossreggie has been offered J before by QF (Olympics) and turned them down, preferring to buy his own F ticket...he doesn't do J or Y (just ask his son who won the bet).

I was surprised to see my opinion referred to in the weekly newsletter... The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - Platinum One Benefits: Our members tell all

So I thought I better check back and see what I said. Since it was over a year ago that I posted my comments, here's a quick update on my P1 experiences since and you can inform yourselves of its worth.

I have been P1 since day 1.

I always felt that a P1 level would make good business sense for QF. I'm sure there has been a growth in P1 membership.

P1 was underwhelming when released and continues to improve. To be fair, P1 is the best airline customer service level I have experienced in general in any FF programme so far. (that doesnt say much about other programmes!)

(for context I currently also have top level on Star Alliance, Skywards (Emirates) and Flying Blue (Air France + KLM). Last year I travelled on 16 different airlines, and this year in the first two months alone on 10 different airlines. I can’t comment on how it compares to some of the other "special" programmes like Concierge Key, IO or HON Circle.)

There is still plenty of room to improve P1. It is still not something you would want to specifically target, but is nice to have if you travel a lot on Qantas (doesnt help on partner airlines).

I have a lot of suggestions on how QF can improve P1. I wish it was useful on partner airlines, the QF network is so limited, I hope it will actually mean something on EK, guaranteed J class seat pls, and as a very minor point, why spend all that money on the metal packaging the card comes in, might as well make the card nicer instead and send it in a paper envelope ;)

Events: Other than the launch event, which I couldn't attend as I was overseas, I have been invited to one event – the Qantus Club drinks with QFF CEO. I will be overseas again.

Points upgrades: I only ever request points upgrades on the A380. In 2012, I travelled on the QF A380 in J class 14 times. I requested points upgrades to F class 13 times with success 12 times. (I always request upgrades at the last minute before the cut-off as I change flights regularly). The only time I can recall that I didn't request a points upgrade, I recall being upgraded anyway.

Op-upgrades: As an example, I had 6 BNE-PER cross-country flights in economy last year. I received op-upgrades (no points) on 5 of those flights. I had a look on a few of those occasions, and noticed that my seat in economy was unoccupied (i.e. the upgrade was not due to oversold cabin), which was very nice of QF.

Award seats: I've used over a million points on flights for family members since P1. In most cases the P1 team made it very easy and got me the flights I requested, sometimes in peak seasons like Christmas (requested 4 weeks out). It hasn't always been smooth (I recommend you work out a few versions of your itinerary first before you contact them) and unfortunately can't do much in terms of partner airlines (will this be a problem on EK?)

Gifts: I’ve received a few bottles of wine, including Grange.

Seating: Almost always get the seats I like, can select any seat in the cabin. I regularly receive the “platinum shadow”. Expertflyer sometimes shows the seats next to mine as “blocked”. Occassionally get offered a different seat once on board.

P1 service team: They are good people. It feels a bit awkward when you call afterhours and you can hear they’re at home, but they are always nice and try to be helpful.

cheers

The problem with unpublished benefits is that they raise expectations. I have had some pretty good experiences when I have had to fly long haul Y. It normally begins with a visit from the CSM or cabin supervisor asking if there is anything they can do to make me more comfortable. In all case I have been offered food and drinks, headphones, amenity kits etc from the J or F cabin and well looked after for the duration of the flight. QF2 today. LHR-SIN, was as poor as it gets. No visit from the CSM, no treats, plastic glasses, and absolutely no acknowledgement of status.

The cabin supervisor materialised an hour before landing to distribute landing cards. It was an awkward moment as she stood, for what seemed like an age, reading the pax manifest. She asked me how the service was and I replied "OK".

I got exactly what I paid for, but it was a long, long, long, way off the "ultimate level of personal service" P1 promises.

On the plus side the Emirates Lounge at SIN is an absolute delight. For a start it is not crowded, it also has an excellent drinks selection and I particularly enjoyed the fillet steak. :)

I will say. I think the First Class Lounge in Sydney will be a great place to be prior to QF1 on Easter Sunday. I'm expecting a real party atmosphere.

I am sure there will be a Easter mass being held within the lounge, for those heavy religious types ;)
